Caramel Apple Sundae / Sauce image

Pioneer woman's recipe. I added a little salt and divided recipe in half for 2 big servings or 4 small servings. Quick and easy. Hubby loves this little dessert topping. Enjoy!

2 granny smith apples, peeled and cored. slice thin or dice into small chunks
1/2 c packed brown sugar
1/2 stick butter, plus
1 Tbsp butter
1/4 c heavy cream
1/2 tsp cinnamon
dash(es) salt
cookie crumbles for topping
ice cream

Steps:

  • 1. In skillet, saute' apples over medium high heat, using 1 tablespoon of butter. Cook until apples are tender, but still firm.
  • 2. Remove apples from pan and set aside.
  • 3. Over medium heat, add 1/2 stick of butter and heavy cream. Stir until sugar is dissolved.
  • 4. Add heavy cream and dash of salt. Stir and let sauce thicken a bit (about 1-2 minutes).
  • 5. Turn heat to low. Add apple pieces back in to mixture. Add cinnamon. Stir and let thicken a little more (about 1-2 minutes again).
  • 6. Place ice cream in serving bowls and spoon apple mixture on top. Add vanilla cookie crumbles or crumbled lady finger cookies, or other fancy cookies on side.
