Cabbage Patch Stew image

This is my 95 yr old Grandma's recipe. Major comfort food!!

Number Of Ingredients 11

1 1/2 lb ground beef
1 c celery, chopped
2 Tbsp chili powder
2 Tbsp sugar (optional)
1 large can tomatoes, chopped fine
1 large onion, chopped
2 c shredded cabbage
2 c water or broth (can be adjusted)
2 can(s) pinto beans (or 4 cups cooked pintos)
1 Tbsp worcestershire sauce
salt and pepper to taste

Steps:

  • 1. Brown meat. Remove from pan and set aside.
  • 2. Add water and cook onion, celery and cabbage until tender.
  • 3. Add remaining ingredients (including meat) and simmer for 30-40 minutes.

I'm not a big fan of cabbage, but I really enjoyed this stew. The cabbage was tender and flavorful, and the sausage and kielbasa added a nice smoky flavor.
