This is my Grandmothers buttermilk pie recipe and I have so many fond memories of her in the kitchen making this pie. It has to be one of my favorites and I hope it will become yours too.

Time 1h20m

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 3/4 c sugar
1 stick unsalted butter, room temp
3 large eggs
1/4 tsp vanilla extract
3 Tbsp all purpose flour
pinch of salt
1 c buttermilk
1 9" unbaked pie crust

Steps:

  • 1. Cream together the sugar and butter till well blended. Beat in the eggs, 1 at a time, until the mixture is nice and smooth. Add in the vanilla, salt and flour. Beat in the buttermilk until well combined.
  • 2. Place the pie shell on a baking sheet lined with foil (catches any overflow). Fill the pie shell with the buttermilk mixture, just to the top of the shell. Pour any remaining into an ungreased custard cup. Bake at 300 degrees for 1 hour 10 minutes. Remove from the oven and let set until almost cooled before serving. Store covered in the fridge

I'm allergic to buttermilk, so I used regular milk instead. The pie turned out great! The filling was creamy and delicious, and the crust was flaky and buttery.

This pie is way too sweet for my taste. I would recommend reducing the amount of sugar in the filling.

I followed the recipe exactly and my pie turned out terrible. The filling was lumpy and the crust was tough. I'm not sure what went wrong.
