BBQ Crock Pot Beans image

We love the meat that was added to these slow cooker beans. The ground beef along with red beans make these beans very hearty. These are sweet, without being overly sweet, and have a slight tang. Crumbled bacon on top adds the perfect amount of savoriness. Serve these at your next BBQ for a fuss-free side dish.

Time 6h30m

Number Of Ingredients 10

1 lb ground beef
1 medium diced onion
1 can(s) red beans - or kidney (15 oz size)
2 can(s) pork n beans (15 oz) or one large can
1/2 c ketchup
1/4 c prepared mustard
2/3 c brown sugar (light or dark)
2 Tbsp instant coffee granules
1 Tbsp liquid smoke
6 slice cooked bacon, crumbled for topping

Steps:

  • 1. In a large frying pan, brown ground beef and onion; drain.
  • 2. In a large Crock Pot assemble remaining ingredients, except optional bacon.
  • 3. Stir well.
  • 4. Add drained meat/onion mixture.
  • 5. Cook on low 7-8 hours. The mixture will thicken as it cools. The longer you cook, the thicker the consistency. If cooking on stove-top, cover after bringing it to a bubbling simmer, set flame to low and cook about 1-1/2 hours.
  • 6. Cook and crumble the bacon.
  • 7. I keep this on low in a Crock Pot, crumbling the bacon on top just before serving.

I'm not sure what I did wrong, but my beans turned out really watery. They didn't have much flavor either.

I'm not a huge fan of beans, but these were surprisingly good. The BBQ sauce gave them a nice smoky flavor.
