Banana and Peanut Butter Dog Treats image

My dog just loves these. When I have some bananas left, I can divide them in half and freeze them. I only make a half batch at once since he is small, but if your dog is bigger or if you like to give many treats to your pet, make a whole batch. You could even freeze some after making them if properly stored in a freezer bag or container.

Time 55m

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 - egg
1/3 cup(s) peanut butter, smooth, lower sugar or natural is better
1/2 cup(s) mashed banana (about 1 banana)
1 tablespoon(s) honey
1 cup(s) whole wheat flour
1/2 cup(s) wheat germ
1 - egg white, lightly beaten for brushing

Steps:

  • 1. Preheat oven to 300° F. Lightly spray a baking sheet.
  • 2. Stir together the egg, peanut butter, banana, and honey in a medium bowl to blend thoroughly. Slowly stir in the flour and wheat germ; mix well. Place a piece of wax paper onto board or counter top and flour. Turn dough out onto the floured paper and place another sprinkle of flour and top with another piece of wax paper. Roll dough to 1/4 inch thick and remove top layer of wax paper. Cut into desired shapes with a cookie cutter, place on prepared baking sheet, and brush tops with egg white if desired.
  • 3. Bake biscuits in preheated oven until dried and golden brown, about 20-25 minutes, depending on size. I would closely watch these after 15 minutes. Remove from oven and cool on a wire rack.
  • 4. No wheat germ??? Try using quick oats instead. Roughly grind it in a food grinder or coffee grinder for the right consistency, or you can use as is. Works just the same.

I've made these treats several times and my dog loves them. They're a great way to use up ripe bananas.

These treats were a bit too soft for my dog, but I think that's because I used a ripe banana.

My dog is allergic to wheat, so I was happy to find a recipe for dog treats that didn't contain any wheat.
