That's right...BACON.

Categories     Candies

Time 50m

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 1/2 c sugar
2 1/2 c light corn syrup
2 3/4 c cold water
1 pinch salt
1 lb bacon
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 tsp baking soda

Steps:

  • 1. Brush 9x13 baking sheet with butter and set aside.
  • 2. Cook bacon until easily crumbled. Crumble and set aside.
  • 3. Combine Corn Syrup, Sugar, Water and salt in medium saucepan. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring constantly until sugar dissolves. Continue cooking, swirling occasionally, until reaching 'softball stage' on a candy thermometer (238 degrees.)
  • 4. Add bacon, continue cooking and stirring often to keep from burning bacon, until liquid turns amber. Remove from heat.
  • 5. Carefully stir in Vanilla and Baking Soda, immediately. Mixture will foam up in pan.
  • 6. Pour mixture on to prepared baking sheet, spread evenly immediately. Then set aside until completely cooled.
  • 7. Gently break brittle into pieces and enjoy.

I found this recipe to be a bit too sweet for my taste. I would recommend using less brown sugar next time.

I'm not sure what I did wrong, but my bacon brittle turned out too hard. I think I overcooked it.

I'm not a big fan of bacon, but I actually really enjoyed this bacon brittle. It's not too greasy and the brown sugar coating is delicious.
