Authentic Anchor Bar Buffalo Chicken Wings image

This is a recipe that my husband found under American food on About.com website. It says that it is the real recipe for the wings from Anchor Bar in Buffalo New York, but I noticed many of the reviewers stated it wasn't, so who knows. I just know that I love the wings and am now posting it here for my personal stash. These are...

Time 35m

Number Of Ingredients 13

36 chicken wing pieces(one wing makes 2 pieces - the "flat" and the "drum")
1 Tbsp vegetable oil
1 tsp salt
1 c all purpose flour
FOR THE SAUCE:
1 1/2 Tbsp white vinegar
1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
1/8 tsp garlic powder
1/4 tsp worcestershire sauce
1 tsp tabasco sauce
1/4 tsp salt
6 Tbsp louisiana hot sauce (frank's is the brand used in buffalo)
6 Tbsp butter, unsalted

Steps:

  • 1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees F. If necessary, cut whole wings into two pieces. In a bowl toss the wings with the oil, and salt. Place into a large plastic shopping bag, and add the flour. Shake to coat evenly. Remove wings from the bag, shaking off excess flour, and spread out evenly on oiled foil-lined baking pan(s). Do not crowd. Bake for about 20 minutes, turn the wings over, and cook another 20 minutes, or until the wings are cooked through and browned. These can also be deep fried for 12-15 minutes at 375 degrees.
  • 2. While the wings are baking (or frying), mix all the ingredients for the sauce in a pan, and over low heat bring to a simmer, stirring occasionally, and then turn off.
  • 3. After the wings are cooked, transfer to a large mixing bowl. Pour the sauce over the hot wings and toss with a spoon or spatula to completely coat. These are always served with celery sticks and blue cheese dressing on the side. I prefer to have mine with carrots and ranch dressing.

This recipe is a waste of time. The wings were bland and the sauce was flavorless.

I tried this recipe and it was a disaster. The wings were overcooked and the sauce was too spicy.

This recipe is too complicated. I don't have time to make it.

I'm allergic to chicken. Can I use a different type of meat?

I'm not a big fan of spicy food. Do you think I could use a different type of sauce?

I'm not sure about the celery and carrots. I might just eat the wings on their own.

These wings are so easy to make and they taste just like the ones from my favorite restaurant. I love that I can make them at home and they're just as good.

I'm not usually a fan of buffalo chicken wings, but these were really good. The sauce was flavorful and the chicken was cooked perfectly. I would definitely recommend this recipe.

I've tried many buffalo chicken wing recipes, but this one is by far the best. The secret is in the sauce. It's made with a combination of Frank's RedHot Sauce, butter, and Worcestershire sauce. It's so good, you'll want to lick your fingers.

OMG! These wings are amazing! The sauce is perfectly balanced, with just the right amount of heat. The chicken is cooked perfectly, crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. I will definitely be making these again and again.
