It's as simple as it sounds: tempura asparagus, deep-fried to a golden crisp. Goes great with ranch and is great for a get-together.

Number Of Ingredients 5

vegetable oil for frying
1 cup tempura mix (such as Kikkoman®)
¾ cup ice-cold water
1 pound asparagus
2 teaspoons sea salt

Steps:

  • Heat 1 to 2 inches of oil in a saucepan or deep fryer over medium-high heat.
  • Stir tempura mix and water together to make a loose batter.
  • Cut tough ends from the bottom of the asparagus spears. Dip into the batter, making sure spears are evenly coated.

This recipe was a disaster. The tempura batter was too thick and the asparagus was overcooked.

The tempura batter didn't stick to the asparagus very well. I'm not sure what I did wrong.

The asparagus tempura was a bit bland. I think I'll add some more spices to the batter next time.

I'm allergic to gluten, so I used a gluten-free flour blend in the batter. It turned out great!

I've never made tempura before, but this recipe was easy to follow and the results were amazing. The asparagus was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside.

This asparagus tempura was a hit! The batter was light and crispy, and the asparagus was cooked perfectly. I served it with a dipping sauce made of soy sauce, rice vinegar, and sesame oil, and it was delicious.
