Steps:
- 1. Preheat oven to 350 degree F. Put sliced apples into a 2 - 2 1/2 quart casserole dish.
- 2. Mix 3/4 cup water, brown sugar, butter, cinnamon and salt in a saucepan and heat (medium heat) until butter melts. ( I used 3/4 cup brown sugar as I used Granny Smith apples).
- 3. Mix cornstarch with 1/4 cup water and stir until smooth. Stir this gradually into the sugar mixture and bring to a boil.
- 4. Remove from heat and pour over the apples.
- 5. Stir in walnuts, cover and bake until apples are soft, about 45 minutes. Time may vary, depending on variety of apples used.
- 6. Serve warm, room temperature or cold. Delicious topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
