Time 1h

Number Of Ingredients 8

6 c peeled, sliced apples
1 c water, divided
3 Tbsp butter
1/2 - 3/4 c packed brown sugar ( i used 3/4 cup as i used tart apples )
1 1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/8 tsp salt
3 Tbsp corn starch
1/2 - 3/4 c coarsley chopped walnuts

Steps:

  • 1. Preheat oven to 350 degree F. Put sliced apples into a 2 - 2 1/2 quart casserole dish.
  • 2. Mix 3/4 cup water, brown sugar, butter, cinnamon and salt in a saucepan and heat (medium heat) until butter melts. ( I used 3/4 cup brown sugar as I used Granny Smith apples).
  • 3. Mix cornstarch with 1/4 cup water and stir until smooth. Stir this gradually into the sugar mixture and bring to a boil.
  • 4. Remove from heat and pour over the apples.
  • 5. Stir in walnuts, cover and bake until apples are soft, about 45 minutes. Time may vary, depending on variety of apples used.
  • 6. Serve warm, room temperature or cold. Delicious topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

This casserole is a great way to use up leftover apples. It's also a very affordable dish to make.

I've tried several apple walnut casserole recipes, and this one is by far the best. The flavors are perfectly balanced and the casserole is always moist and delicious.

I'm not sure what I did wrong, but my casserole didn't turn out very well. It was too dry and the apples were too tart.

I found that the casserole was a bit dry. I think I would add some more milk or applesauce next time.

This casserole was a bit too sweet for my taste, but I think that's just a personal preference. Otherwise, it was a very good recipe.

I'm not a huge fan of apples, but I really enjoyed this casserole. The sweetness of the apples was balanced out perfectly by the spices.
