Steps:
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees Mix sugar, corn starch, water, butter and vanilla; cook until thick over medium heat. Coo. Mix flour, oatmeal, brown sugar, shortening and salt. Pat half of flour mixture in a 9 by 13 inch pan. Spead apples in pan, then pour cooked mixture over apples. Layer last half of flour mixture on top. Bake at 375 degrees for one hour.
