Time 1h25m

Number Of Ingredients 12

24 oz (1 large) challah bread, cut into 2" cubes
8 large eggs
2 c milk
2 c heavy cream
1 c sugar
1/2 c brown sugar packed
2 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
2 tsp vanilla extract
6 Tbsp melted butter
1/2 9" apple pie, cut into large chunks
1 jar(s) 19.5 oz, carmel sauce, or make your own!
1 tsp rum

Steps:

  • 1. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Grease a 9" x 13" casserole dish; set aside. Place the bread cubes in a large bowl; set aside.
  • 2. Whisk the eggs, milk, heavy cream, both sugars, cinnamon, and vanilla in a medium-size bowl. Beat until well mixed. Pour the egg mixture and melted butter over the bread and gently toss until most of the egg mixture is absorbed by the bread. Add the apple pie chunks and lightly toss to evenly incorporate
  • 3. Loosely cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for 35 minutes. Remove the foil and bake uncovered for an additional 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean
  • 4. To prepare the sauce, combine the caramel sauce and the rum in a microwave-safe bowl; microwave for 60-90 seconds, or until warm. Serve over the warm bread pudding.

I've made this recipe several times and it's always a hit. It's a great way to use up leftover bread and apple pie filling.

This recipe was a lot of work for not much payoff. The bread pudding was just okay and the apple pie filling was nothing special. I wouldn't make it again.

I'm not sure what went wrong, but my bread pudding turned out really dense and heavy. It wasn't very good.

This was a disaster! The bread pudding was dry and the apple pie filling was too tart. I won't be making this again.

I found this recipe to be a bit bland. I think it needed more spices or something to give it more flavor.

This was a bit too sweet for my taste, but it was still good. I think I'll try it again with less sugar next time.
