Steps:
- 1. In large bowl, combine milk and eggs. Stir in cheese, bacon and onion. Pour into well-buttered 9" pie dish (can use large loaf pan).
- 2. Toss potatoes with ssalt and pepper. Sprinkle over the egg mixture.
- 3. Drizzle butter over potatoes. Bake at 325 until knife comes out clean, about 45 minutes.
- 4. If needed, I broil the dish the last 5 minutes or so to get a nice golden brown top on the hashbrowns.
Tips:
- To save time, use a pre-made pie crust. If you're making your own, be sure to chill it for at least 30 minutes before rolling it out.
- Use a large skillet to cook the ground beef. This will help to prevent the meat from sticking to the pan and will also allow it to brown more evenly.
- Don't overcrowd the skillet when cooking the ground beef. If you do, the meat will not brown properly and will instead steam.
- Season the ground beef generously with salt and pepper. This will help to enhance the flavor of the meat.
- Be sure to drain the grease from the ground beef before adding it to the pie filling. This will help to prevent the pie from being greasy.
- Use a variety of vegetables in your pie filling. This will add flavor, color, and texture to the dish.
- Don't overfill the pie crust. If you do, the filling will bubble over and make a mess.
- Bake the pie at a high temperature for the first 15 minutes. This will help to set the crust and prevent it from becoming soggy.
- Reduce the oven temperature after 15 minutes and continue to bake the pie until the filling is bubbling and the crust is golden brown.
- Let the pie cool for at least 15 minutes before serving. This will allow the filling to set and will make it easier to slice.
Conclusion:
Rancher's pie is a hearty and delicious meal that is perfect for a weeknight dinner. It is easy to make and can be customized to your liking. With a few simple tips, you can make a rancher's pie that is sure to please everyone at the table.
