GERMAN RAHMSPINAT - CREAMED SPINACH

German Rahmspinat - Creamed Spinach image

This is one of the few vegetable dishes that my young grandson loves, but without the onions. He said it was like the Rahmspinat he ate when he lived in Germany. I serve it to family and for company.I have made this with Smart Balance buttery spread and skim milk. Do not 'overdo' the nutmeg.

Tips:

  • Use fresh spinach: Fresh spinach has the best flavor and texture. If you can't find fresh spinach, frozen spinach is a good substitute.
  • Wash the spinach thoroughly: Before you cook the spinach, be sure to wash it thoroughly to remove any dirt or grit.
  • Don't overcook the spinach: Spinach cooks quickly, so be careful not to overcook it. Overcooked spinach will be mushy and lose its flavor.
  • Use a good quality cream: The cream is one of the key ingredients in creamed spinach, so be sure to use a good quality cream. Heavy cream or whipping cream will give you the best results.
  • Season the spinach to taste: Creamed spinach can be seasoned with a variety of herbs and spices. Some common seasonings include salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and nutmeg.
  • Serve the spinach immediately: Creamed spinach is best served immediately after it is cooked. If you need to store the spinach, you can refrigerate it for up to 3 days.

Conclusion:

Creamed spinach is a delicious and versatile side dish that can be served with a variety of main courses. It's easy to make and can be tailored to your own taste preferences. Whether you like it simple or loaded with flavor, creamed spinach is sure to be a hit at your next meal.
