QUICK & EASY APPLE CRISP

Quick & Easy Apple Crisp image

A traditional autumn dessert that's delicious served with vanilla ice cream. I've often made this recipe "diabetic-friendly" without sacrificing taste or quality by using Splenda No-Calorie Sweetener. Directions are included.

1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 tablespoon butter
1 cup flour
1 cup brown sugar

vanilla ice cream or fresh whipped cream

QUICK AND EASY APPLE CRISP

I got this recipe from a neat little book called "101 Things to do with a Cake Mix" by Stephany Ashcraft. I got this book from my gran for Christmas! I am posting a few of the recipes I have not seen here before for all to enjoy!

Time 55m

Yield 4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 6

4 -6 apples
1/4 cup butter (I would use butter) or 1/4 cup margarine (I would use butter)
1 (18 ounce) box yellow cake mix
1/2 cup quick oats
2 tablespoons sugar
1 tablespoon cinnamon

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350°F.
  • Peel, core and slice apples.
  • Place in a well greased 8x8-inch baking pan.
  • Mix cake mix, oats, sugar and cinnamon in a large bowl.
  • Melt butter and pour over the top of the dry cake mixture and mix until crumbly.
  • Sprinkle this over apples.
  • Bake 35-40 minutes until golden.

Tips:

  • Use a variety of apples: This will give your apple crisp a more complex flavor and texture. Some good options include Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, and Pink Lady apples.
  • Peel and slice the apples thinly: This will help them to cook evenly. If you don't have a lot of time, you can use a mandoline to slice the apples quickly and easily.
  • Use a combination of brown sugar and granulated sugar: This will give your apple crisp a sweet and slightly caramelized flavor.
  • Add some spices to the filling: Cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger are all good choices. You can also add a pinch of salt to help balance the sweetness of the apples.
  • Don't overmix the topping: You want the topping to be crumbly, not smooth. If you overmix it, the topping will be tough and dense.
  • Bake the apple crisp until the topping is golden brown and the filling is bubbly: This usually takes about 30-40 minutes. You can check the apple crisp by inserting a toothpick into the center. If it comes out clean, the apple crisp is done.
  • Serve the apple crisp warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream: This is the perfect way to enjoy this classic dessert.

Conclusion:

Apple crisp is a delicious and easy-to-make dessert that is perfect for any occasion. With a few simple ingredients and a little bit of time, you can have a warm and comforting apple crisp that the whole family will love. So next time you're looking for a sweet treat, give this apple crisp recipe a try. You won't be disappointed!
