Time 13m

Yield 6 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 8

3 sheets puff pastry
2 apples, roughly chopped
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1 tablespoon brown sugar, to taste
1/4 cup orange juice
1 punnet raspberries
powdered sugar, for dusting
whipped cream or ice cream

Steps:

  • Cook chopped apples, cinnamon, brown sugar and orange juice together in a saucepan for approximately 5 minutes or until apple is softened slightly.
  • Fold through raspberries and allow to cool.
  • Cut each strip of puff pastry in half and lay one of the halves in sandwich maker.
  • Top the halves of pastry with apple filling, and place other pastry half on top of each and close sandwich maker.
  • Cook until golden on the outside, about 3 minutes.
  • Turn out filled pastry and trim edges to neaten.
  • Dust with icing sugar and serve with whipped cream or ice-cream.

Tips:

  • Choose the right apples: Use firm, tart apples like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp. These apples will hold their shape better during baking and provide a nice contrast to the sweet filling.
  • Don't overfill the turnovers: Too much filling will make the turnovers difficult to seal and may cause them to burst open during baking.
  • Use a sharp knife to cut the apples: This will help you get clean, even slices that will cook evenly.
  • Be careful not to overcook the turnovers: They should be golden brown and the filling should be bubbling.
  • Serve the turnovers warm: They're best enjoyed fresh out of the oven with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.

Conclusion:

Apple turnovers are a delicious and easy-to-make treat that are perfect for any occasion. With just a few simple ingredients, you can create a batch of these flaky, golden pastries that will be a hit with everyone who tries them. So next time you're looking for a quick and easy dessert, give apple turnovers a try!
