6-ingredient gooey Swedish chocolate cake (kladdkaka) image

Quite possibly the quickest, easiest, gooey-est (and so best) chocolate cake you'll ever make. This has only 6 ingredients and takes only 30 minutes to make and bake from start to finish. A cake that is so perfect for serving to guests... or just scoffing at home in front on the TV!

Time 30m

Number Of Ingredients 6

4¾ ounces salted butter ((US = just over ½ cup, or just over 1 stick))
½ cups cocoa powder ((plus 1 tablespoon) unsweetened, plus extra for sprinkling)
1¾ cups sugar
1 cup plain flour ((actually, just less than a full cup, about 0.85 cups))
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
3 eggs (lightly whisked)

Steps:

  • Pre-heat the oven to 180C/350F. Line the bottom of a 7-9 inch (see note below) springform cake pan with a circle of baking paper, then grease the paper and the sides of the pan.
  • Melt the butter in a medium saucepan, then take off the heat and set aside.
  • Add the cocoa, sugar, flour and vanilla to the butter and stir a little. Then add the eggs and stir everything together until well combined.
  • Pour the mixture into the cake pan and bake for 20 to 25 minutes (see note below) until the top is set but the centre is still gooey (the top should be firm but crack under a little pressure from your finger).
  • Let the cake cool in the pan, then run a knife between the pan and the cake to loosen it. Turn out onto a plate or cake stand (see note below). Dust generously with cocoa powder and serve warm with ice cream or cream.

QUICK AND EASY, GOOEY CHOCOLATE CAKE

Quick and Easy, Gooey Chocolate Cake image

When we gather as a family (all 30+ of us), one night will be devoted to a fish fry. My dad requires this chocolate cake to go with the fish and eats the two together. The rest of us save it for dessert. It's yummy! It's good at room temperature but even better served warm.

CAKE:
2 c self-rising flour
2 c sugar
1/2 tsp salt
1 c butter or margarine
1 c water
4 Tbsp cocoa powder
2 large eggs
1/2 c buttermilk
1 tsp soda
1 tsp vanilla extract
ICING:
1 1/2 c sugar
1/3 c cocoa powder
1/3 c milk
dash salt
1 1/2 stick butter or margarine

Steps:

  • 1. COMBINE self-rising flour, 2 cups sugar and 1/2 tsp salt in a mixing bowl.
  • 2. BRING TO A BOIL 1 cup butter, 1 cup water, and 4 Tbsp cocoa. Pour over the flour mixture then add 2 eggs, 1/2 cup buttermilk, 1 tsp soda, and 1 tsp vanilla.
  • 3. Mix well and pour into greased 9x13" baking pan (we use a glass baking dish). Bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes OR until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.
  • 4. Remove cake from oven to wire rack and poke holes in the top of the cake (liberally ... this cake is best when the icing is able to seep down into the cake).
  • 5. FOR THE ICING: bring to a boil 1-1/2 cups sugar, 1/3 cup cocoa, 1/3 cup milk, dash of salt, and 1-1/2 sticks of margarine. Boil for one minute, stirring to keep from sticking, then pour over the cake.
  • 6. Serve warm or at room temperature.
  • 7. My sister doubles the icing recipe. Too much icing for me but the kids love the extra chocolate.

GOOEY CHOCOLATE CAKE

Gooey Chocolate Cake image

This is the chocolate cake we made all the time as poor students with my bestest friend Tuija! There are no fancy ingredients, you can put the cake together in minutes and the end result is pure chocolate decadance. The cake is flat and doesn't exactly make a pretty presenatation (we usually even skipped the parchment paper and scraped the cake off the bottom of the springform pan :-) but the taste more than makes up for it.

Time 30m

Yield 1 cake, 8 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 7

300 ml sugar
150 ml all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons vanilla sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
4 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa
150 g butter, melted
2 eggs

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 200 degrees C.
  • Line the bottom of a springform pan with parchment paper, grease and flour the paper and the sides of the pan.
  • Whisk the eggs briefly with a fork (so the yolks break) and mix the eggs with melted butter.
  • Combine all dry ingredients.
  • Mix dry ingredients with the butter mixture.
  • Pour batter into the prepared pan and bake for 20 minutes.
  • If the cake wobbles and looks undone after 20 minutes, don't worry: it's supposed to.
  • Let cool.
  • The cake is very gooey at the bottom, so if you wish to transfer it to a serving plate take the parchment paper too!
  • Serve with a dollop of whipped cream.

1 box Betty Crocker™ Super Moist™ devil's food cake mix
1/2 cup butter or margarine, softened
2 tablespoons milk
1 egg
1 cup peanut butter chips (from 10-oz bag)
1/2 cup chopped roasted peanuts
1 package (8 oz) cream cheese, softened
1/2 cup peanut butter
1 teaspoon vanilla
3 eggs
3 3/4 cups powdered sugar
Hot fudge topping, if desired
Chopped peanuts, if desired

Tips:

  • Use high-quality chocolate. The quality of the chocolate you use will directly affect the taste of the cake. Look for chocolate with a cocoa content of at least 70%.
  • Don't overmix the batter. Overmixing the batter will result in a tough, dry cake. Mix the batter just until the ingredients are combined.
  • Bake the cake in a preheated oven. This will help to ensure that the cake bakes evenly.
  • Let the cake cool completely before frosting it. This will help to prevent the frosting from melting.

Conclusion:

This gooey chocolate cake is the perfect dessert for any occasion. It's easy to make, and it's sure to be a hit with everyone who tries it. So next time you're in the mood for something sweet, give this recipe a try.
