Tips:
- Choose a pumpkin that is the right size for your casserole. A 3- to 4-pound pumpkin will yield about 4 cups of cooked pumpkin.
- Make sure the pumpkin is ripe. A ripe pumpkin will have a deep orange color and a hard rind.
- When you are scooping out the pumpkin, be careful not to cut through the skin. If you do, the casserole will leak.
- If you are using fresh pumpkin, you will need to cook it before you can use it in the casserole. To cook the pumpkin, cut it into 1-inch pieces and place it in a saucepan with 1 inch of water. Bring the water to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and simmer the pumpkin for 15-20 minutes, or until it is tender.
- You can use canned pumpkin in place of fresh pumpkin if you are short on time. Just be sure to drain the canned pumpkin before using it.
- Add your favorite spices to the casserole. Pumpkin pie spice, cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger are all good choices.
- Serve the casserole warm with a dollop of whipped cream or ice cream.
Conclusion:
Pumpkin Shell Casserole is a delicious and festive dish that is perfect for fall gatherings. It is easy to make and can be tailored to your own taste. With its creamy filling and crispy pumpkin shell, this casserole is sure to be a hit with everyone at your table.
