Tips:
- For a flaky crust, use a combination of butter and shortening.
- Chill the butter and shortening before adding it to the flour. This will help ensure that the dough doesn't become too warm and sticky.
- Work the dough quickly and gently until it just comes together. Overworking the dough will make it tough.
- Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface. This will help prevent it from sticking.
- Trim the edges of the dough and transfer it to a pie plate. Press the dough into the bottom and sides of the plate, making sure to eliminate any air pockets.
- Chill the crust for at least 30 minutes before filling and baking.
- For a smooth, creamy pumpkin filling, use a food processor or blender to puree the pumpkin.
- Add spices to the pumpkin filling to taste. Popular spices include cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and cloves.
- Pour the pumpkin filling into the prepared crust and bake according to the recipe instructions.
- Let the pie cool completely before serving.
