Time 30m

Number Of Ingredients 8

2 steaks, boneless ribeye
Avocado oil
3 tablespoons Hawaiian salt
1 tablespoon 'alaea salt
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon ginger powder
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1/2 teaspoon onion powder

Steps:

  • For the steak: Trim excess fat along the edge of the steak. This will help prevent grill flare ups and over charring. Pat the steak dry. Brush with avocado oil
  • For the Hawaiian seasoning salt: To a small bowl add Hawaiian salt, 'alaea salt, garlic powder, ginger powder, pepper, and onion powder. Mix until well combined.
  • Liberally season the steak with about 2 teaspoons of Hawaiian seasoning salt. Set aside and allow to rest 20-30min prior to grilling.
  • Heat half of the grill (if using charcoal/wood, place on half the grill, or if using burners light ½ of the burners only) to high, about 500F.
  • Place steaks directly over the flame and sear for 3-5 minutes. Flip and repeat on the other side.
  • Move steak to the unlight side of the grill, close the lid, and cook until desired doneness temperature. For rare 120F, medium rare 130F, medium 135F, medium well 140F, and well done 150F.
  • Remove steaks from the grill and place on a cutting board. Tent with a piece of foil and allow to rest for 5 minutes before slicing. ENJOY!

Categories     Beef     Pork     Dinner

Number Of Ingredients 18

1/2 small sweet onion, sliced
1/4 cup cider vinegar
2 tablespoons soy sauce
1 red fresno chile, chopped
1 tablespoon fish sauce
1/2 tablespoon olive oil
2 teaspoons garlic, chopped
1/2 cup mirin
1/4 cup sake
1/2 cup soy sauce
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 tablespoon sherry vinegar
3 cloves garlic, smashed
3 scallions, chopped
1 tablespoon ginger
1 tablespoon black pepper
1 1/2 pounds hanger steak
1 teaspoon kosher salt

Steps:

  • Stir together all finadene ingredients (onion, vinegar, soy sauce, chile, fish sauce, oilive oil, garlic) in a small bowl. Let stand at room temperature 1 hour.
  • Heat skillet to medium-high; whisk in mirin and sake until smooth. Add soy sauce, brown sugar, sherry vinegar, garlic, scallions, ginger, and peppercorns; cook, stirring often, 15 minutes. Pour mixture through a fine wire-mesh strainer into a bowl; discard solids. Set sauce aside for basting.
  • Sprinkle steak pieces with salt and pepper. Thread steak pieces onto 8 (12-inch) skewers. Brush with basting sauce; let stand at room temperature while grill preheats.
  • Preheat grill to very high [500°F and up].) Place skewers on oiled grates. Grill, uncovered, flipping and basting with sauce until steak pieces are charred in some spots and a meat thermometer registers 125°F, about 8 to 10 minutes for medium-rare.
  • Transfer skewers to a cutting board, and let steak rest 5 to 10 minutes. Serve with finadene.

Tips:

  • To ensure the best flavor, use fresh, high-quality ingredients whenever possible.
  • Don't overcrowd the pan when cooking the steak or pork. This will prevent the meat from cooking evenly.
  • Use a meat thermometer to ensure that the steak or pork is cooked to your desired doneness.
  • Let the meat rest for a few minutes before slicing and serving. This will help the juices redistribute and result in a more tender, flavorful dish.
  • Serve the pulehu steak or pork with your favorite sides, such as rice, roasted vegetables, or a salad.

Conclusion:

Pulehu steak or pork is a delicious and easy-to-make Hawaiian dish that is perfect for a weeknight meal or a special occasion. The combination of sweet and savory flavors, along with the tender meat and crisp vegetables, makes this dish a surefire hit. Whether you choose to use steak or pork, be sure to follow the tips above to ensure the best possible results.
