PRETZEL CRUNCH

Categories     Bake     Super Bowl     Kid-Friendly     Party     Small Plates

Yield makes about 250 g (2 cups )

Number Of Ingredients 6

100 g mini pretzels about 1/4 (16-ounce) bag (2 cups)
60 g light brown sugar 1/4 cup tightly packed
25 g sugar 2 tablespoons
20 g milk powder 1/4 cup
10 g malt powder 1 tablespoon
100 g butter, melted 7 tablespoons

Steps:

  • 1. Heat the oven to 275°F.
  • 2. Pour the pretzels in a medium bowl and crush them with your hands to one-quarter of their original size. Add the milk powder, malt powder, sugar, and salt and toss to mix. Add the butter and toss to coat. As you toss, the butter will act as glue, binding the dry ingredients to the pretzels and creating small clusters.
  • 3. Spread the clusters on a parchment- or Silpat-lined sheet pan and bake for 20 minutes, at which point they should look toasted, smell buttery, and crunch gently when cooled slightly and chewed.
  • 4. Cool the pretzel crunch completely before storing or using in a recipe. Stored in an airtight container at room temperature, the crunch will keep fresh for 1 week; in the fridge or freezer, it will keep for 1 month.

Time 40m

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 box betty crocker brownie mix
water, vegetable oil and eggs as called for on brownie mix box
1 c semi-sweet chocolate chips
14 oz bag of caramels, unwrapped
1/4 c butter or margarine
1 Tbsp milk
1 c pretzels, crushed
1/3 c toffee bits

Steps:

  • 1. Heat oven to 350 degrees (F). Grease or spray 13 x 9-inch pan. (I lined the pan with parchment paper, makes for easier removal of brownies from pan).
  • 2. Make brownie batter as directed on box, using water, oil, and eggs; stir in 1/2 cup chocolate chips (reserve 1/2 cup). Spread into pan.
  • 3. Bake 24 to 28 minutes or until toothpick inserted 1 inch from edge comes out almost clean. Cool 5 minutes.
  • 4. Meanwhile, in medium microwaveable bowl, microwave caramels, butter, and milk uncovered on High 2 to 3 minutes, stirring once, until caramels are melted. Carefully pour and spread over warm brownies.
  • 5. Sprinkle with pretzels, remaining 1/2 cup chocolate chips and toffee bits. Cool completely.
  • 6. Cut into 24 pieces. Enjoy!

Tips:

  • Use high-quality chocolate: The quality of the chocolate you use will greatly impact the flavor of your pretzel crunch. Look for a chocolate that is at least 60% cacao content and that has a smooth, rich flavor.
  • Don't overcook the pretzels: When you're toasting the pretzels, keep a close eye on them so that they don't burn. Overcooked pretzels will be hard and brittle, and they won't have the same great flavor as perfectly toasted pretzels.
  • Use a variety of toppings: The great thing about pretzel crunch is that you can customize it to your own liking. Try using different types of nuts, seeds, or dried fruit to add flavor and texture to your crunch.
  • Store the pretzel crunch in an airtight container: Pretzel crunch can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 weeks. If you want to store it for longer, you can freeze it for up to 2 months.

Conclusion:

Pretzel crunch is a delicious and easy-to-make snack that is perfect for any occasion. With its sweet and salty flavor, it's sure to be a hit with everyone who tries it. So next time you're looking for a quick and easy snack, give pretzel crunch a try. You won't be disappointed!
