FRIED BOLOGNA SANDWICH

Provided by Katie Lee Biegel

Time 15m

Yield 1 sandwich

Number Of Ingredients 9

2 slices soft white sandwich bread, such as Wonder Bread
Mayonnaise, for spreading
Yellow mustard, for spreading
4 thin slices bologna (preferably nitrate-free and pork)
Unsalted butter, for the skillet
2 slices American cheese
2 tablespoons chow chow
1/2 cup BBQ potato chips
1/2 cup shredded iceberg lettuce

Steps:

  • Spread one slice of bread with mayonnaise and the other slice with yellow mustard.
  • Heat a medium skillet or griddle pan over medium-high heat. Make a 1-inch X in the center of each piece of bologna to keep it from curling up in the skillet. Wipe the skillet with a stick of butter until lightly greased. Add the bologna and fry a couple of minutes on each side until browned. Stack up the bologna in the skillet and top with the cheese. Cover with a large inverted bowl and heat until melted.
  • Transfer the bologna to one of the slices of bread. Top with the chow chow, potato chips and lettuce. Top with the other slice of bread and give it a little push to crush the potato chips down a bit. Enjoy immediately.

Time 15m

Yield 1 sandwich

Number Of Ingredients 13

Unsalted butter
2 slices Texas toast
3 slices bologna
Pickle Dip, recipe follows
Handful of shredded iceberg lettuce
Handful of kettle chips
1 cup aged Havarti cheese, shredded
4 ounces cream cheese, softened
1/4 cup ranch dressing
2 tablespoons sriracha
1 tablespoon fresh chopped dill
1 tablespoon pickle brine (taste it and if it's very salty, reduce this amount)
2 whole kosher dill pickles, quartered and chopped

Steps:

  • Melt a nice layer of butter in a medium pan over medium heat. Toast the bread on each side until golden, smooshing it slightly so that it gets a good amount of butter. Transfer to a wire rack or tent them against each other to cool and get crisp. Add the bologna to the pan and cook on both sides until browned. Spread each slice of bread with a layer of Pickle Dip. Top one slice with lettuce and then the bologna and then the chips and then top with the other slice of bread.
  • Stir together the Havarti, cream cheese, ranch dressing, sriracha, dill, pickle brine, and pickles in a medium bowl. (If you'd like to serve this as a dip and not as a spread, thin it with another 1/4 to 1/2 cup of ranch dressing.)

Tips:

  • For the best flavor, use high-quality bologna.
  • Make sure the bologna is sliced thinly, about 1/4 inch thick.
  • Use a cast iron skillet or griddle to cook the bologna. This will help to create a crispy crust.
  • Heat the skillet or griddle over medium-high heat before adding the bologna.
  • Cook the bologna for 2-3 minutes per side, or until it is golden brown and crispy.
  • Serve the fried bologna on a bun with your favorite toppings, such as mustard, ketchup, relish, or onions.

Conclusion:

Potsie's Famous Fried Bologna Sandwich is a delicious and easy-to-make classic sandwich. With its crispy bologna, melted cheese, and tangy sauce, this sandwich is sure to satisfy your hunger. Whether you're making it for a casual lunch or a special occasion, this sandwich is sure to be a hit.
