HONEY PORK ORIENTAL

This is my mom's recipe. Not sure exactly where she got it from, but it has been a family favorite for years. The original recipe is served over cooked rice, but my dad doesn't like rice, so he eats it over cooked egg noodles. It's great both ways. This is a great recipe that uses ingredients that you usually have sitting around in the cupboard.

Another great recipe from my 1987 "Favorite Recipe" cookbook. This dish is good served over rice.

Categories     Pork

Time 50m

Number Of Ingredients 12

2 lb pork shoulder steaks
2 Tbsp oil
1 envelope brown gravy mix
3/4 c water
1/4 c honey
3 Tbsp soy sauce
2 Tbsp wine vinegar
1 tsp ginger
1/2 tsp garlic salt
4 carrots, thinly sliced
1 medium onion, cut into wedges
1 green pepper, cut into strips

Steps:

  • 1. Cut pork into 1" pieces. In small bowl, combine gravy mix, water, honey, soy sauce, vinegar, ginger, and garlic salt. Set aside. Brown pork in oil in wok or large skillet. Add gravy mixture to pork; cover. Lower heat; cook 20 minutes. Add carrots; cook 10 minutes. Add onion & green pepper; cook 5 to 10 minutes more.

Tips:

  • Choose a good quality pork shoulder, preferably with a good amount of marbling. This will ensure that the meat is tender and flavorful.
  • Don't overcook the pork. Pork shoulder is a tough cut of meat, so it needs to be cooked slowly and gently in order to become tender. Overcooking will make the meat dry and tough.
  • Use a variety of spices and herbs to flavor the pork. This will help to create a complex and flavorful dish.
  • Don't be afraid to experiment with different cooking methods. Pork shoulder can be roasted, braised, or even smoked. Each method will produce a slightly different flavor and texture.
  • Serve the pork with a variety of sides, such as rice, noodles, or vegetables. This will help to create a complete and satisfying meal.

Conclusion:

Pork shoulder is a versatile and flavorful cut of meat that can be used to create a variety of delicious dishes. With a little planning and preparation, you can easily create a mouthwatering pork shoulder dish that will impress your friends and family.
