Categories     Long Grain Rice

Time 50m

Yield 4-6 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 10

1 lb lean ground beef
1/2 cup finely diced green bell pepper
1/3 cup diced green onion
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon dried celery flakes
1 teaspoon cajun seasoning
1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
4 cups cooked long-grain rice
1/4-1/3 cup water
1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Steps:

  • In a skillet, combine the ground beef and green pepper and cook over medium-high heat until the beef loses its pink color and the pepper is soft.
  • Pour off the excess fat and reduce the heat to medium-low.
  • Add the remaining ingredients, then stir and cook together until the ground beef is completely cooked and the liquid is absorbed, 25 to 35 minutes.

Tips:

  • Use high-quality ingredients: Fresh vegetables, flavorful spices, and aromatic herbs will elevate the taste of your Cajun rice.
  • Don't skimp on the seasoning: Cajun cuisine is known for its bold flavors, so don't be afraid to add plenty of spices to your rice. A good Cajun seasoning blend should include paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, and black pepper.
  • Cook the rice in chicken broth: This will give the rice a rich, savory flavor. If you don't have chicken broth on hand, you can use vegetable broth or water, but the flavor will be less pronounced.
  • Sauté the vegetables before adding them to the rice: This will help them to caramelize and develop a deeper flavor.
  • Cook the rice until it is tender but still has a slight bite to it: Overcooked rice will be mushy and unpleasant.
  • Serve the rice immediately: Cajun rice is best enjoyed fresh out of the pot. However, you can also make it ahead of time and reheat it gently before serving.

Conclusion:

Popeyes-style Cajun rice is a delicious and versatile side dish that can be enjoyed with a variety of main courses. It is easy to make and can be tailored to your own taste preferences. Whether you like it spicy, mild, or somewhere in between, this recipe is sure to please. So next time you're looking for a flavorful and satisfying side dish, give Popeyes-style Cajun rice a try.
