This recipe if from the l930's. My Grandmother gave it to my Mother and she gave it to me. Now I am a grandmother and passed it down to my kids. It's really good. You don't have to dirty your mixer for this one, just a big bowl.

Tips:

  • Use Fresh Ingredients: Always use fresh and high-quality ingredients for the best results. Fresh butter, milk, and vanilla extract will make a world of difference in the taste of your frosting.
  • Cream the Butter and Sugar Properly: This is the most important step in making frosting. Creaming the butter and sugar together until they are light and fluffy will incorporate air into the frosting, making it smooth and creamy.
  • Add Milk and Vanilla Gradually: Add the milk and vanilla extract gradually, alternating between the two. This will help to prevent the frosting from becoming too thin or curdling.
  • Don't Overmix: Once the frosting is mixed until it is smooth and creamy, stop mixing. Overmixing can cause the frosting to become stiff and grainy.
  • Chill the Frosting: Before using the frosting, chill it for at least 30 minutes. This will help it to set and firm up, making it easier to spread.
  • Use a Variety of Flavors: You can easily change the flavor of the frosting by adding different extracts, spices, or even fruits. Some popular variations include chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, and mint.

Conclusion:

Poor man's frosting is a delicious and versatile frosting that is perfect for cakes, cupcakes, and cookies. It is easy to make and can be customized to your liking. With a few simple tips, you can make a frosting that is smooth, creamy, and full of flavor. So next time you are looking for a quick and easy frosting, give poor man's frosting a try.
