When my in-laws from Poland visited, I made this dish for them, knowing their fondness for sausage and potatoes. They liked it enough to request the recipe, and I gained the reputation of a good cook. -Odette Dallaire, Los Alamos, New Mexico

POLISH POTACHOS

I love potatoes every way possible and wanted a fun side dish of nacho-like potatoes for game days and bbqs....now we eat these any time :0)

Provided by Lori McLain

Categories     Other Side Dishes

Time 15m

Number Of Ingredients 7

2 1/2 c kettle cooked potato chips or homemade chips
2/3 c alfredo sauce
1 c shredded white cheddar cheese
1 c thinly sliced smoked sausage
1/2 c thinly sliced polish pickles ( or your favorite)
1/4 c marinated red pepper strips
1/4 c thinly sliced red onion

Steps:

  • 1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
  • 2. Place the chips on an oven-safe iron skillet or dish.
  • 3. Top with the alfredo sauce, then half of the shredded cheese.
  • 4. Top that layer with the sausage, then the pickles, peppers and onions. Top with remaining cheese.
  • 5. Place in a 375 degree oven for 8-10 minutes, until cheese is melted and golden brown.

Tips:

  • Use high-quality ingredients: Fresh, quality ingredients will make a big difference in the taste of your potachos. Choose potatoes that are firm and free of blemishes, and use fresh, flavorful cheese and seasonings.
  • Don't overcook the potatoes: The potatoes should be cooked until they are tender but still hold their shape. If you overcook them, they will become mushy and difficult to handle.
  • Use a sharp knife: A sharp knife will make it easier to cut the potatoes into even slices and to create a clean, even spiral. If you don't have a sharp knife, you can use a mandoline slicer.
  • Be careful when frying the potatoes: The oil should be hot enough to fry the potatoes without burning them. Use a thermometer to monitor the temperature of the oil and adjust it as needed.
  • Don't overcrowd the pan: When frying the potatoes, don't overcrowd the pan. This will cause the potatoes to steam instead of fry and they will not be as crispy.
  • Season the potatoes to taste: Once the potatoes are fried, season them to taste with salt, pepper, and other desired seasonings.

Conclusion:

Potachos are a delicious and fun appetizer or side dish that is perfect for parties or gatherings. They are easy to make and can be customized to your liking. With a few simple tips, you can make perfect potachos every time. So next time you're looking for a tasty and unique snack, give potachos a try!
