EASY KIELBASA SKILLET DINNER

Easy Kielbasa Skillet Dinner image

The house always smells awesome while this very tasty, filling meal is cooking. It makes kielbasa worth stocking up on when it goes on sale and uses basic/cheap ingredients overall. Vary the vegetables depending on what you have on hand. For example add/replace broccoli with a can of corn and/or peas, etc. If you like a little heat, sprinkle a little hot sauce on top after it's cooked. This should make about 4 servings, but it almost always turns out to be split into 2 large servings between the me and the boyfriend. We like to crisp up/brown the kielbasa slightly before adding the vegetables.

RICE A RONI W/ SAUSAGES

Rice a Roni w/ Sausages image

This looks like a lot of steps but it's really easy and they are necessary to turn out right...the whole process takes about 30 minutes. The butter will brown (not burn), the onions will sweeten, the green beans will fry and the sauce will carmalize nicely. DELICIOUS

Provided by Tracy Joyner

Categories     Beef

Time 40m

Number Of Ingredients 5

2 box beef rice a roni
1 medium onion-chopped
1 can(s) green beans
1 stick butter / margerine
2 lb keilbasa or polish sausage

Steps:

  • 1. put stick of butter in large pan or electric skillet and turn to medium heat
  • 2. While butter is melting, chop onions and add to skillet
  • 3. Drain green beans and add to onions and butter.
  • 4. Slice sausages into rounds and layer on top of onions and green beans.
  • 5. DO NOT STIR.. Get a good fry going in that pan..you want to brown the butter but not burn it. Also very important..you are looking to actually FRY the green beans..it changes the whole flavor of them.
  • 6. When the vegies are about half way cooked through.. -Stir -place a lid on the pan -turn heat down to medium.
  • 7. When the vegies are cooked through and the sausages are about half cooked through.. -remove the lid -turn the heat back up to medium high -move the food to the edges of the pan creating a well in the center -pour the rice from both boxes into the well in the center of the pan. Stir the rice in the center 2 or 3 times coating the rice grains with oil ..I would say to 'brown' them but they will actually turn white/opaque. Don't burn the rice.
  • 8. Stir it all up together Add the seasoning packets from the rice boxes Cover with water to just above the rice.
  • 9. Bring to a good boil and cook for 3-5 min. Stir
  • 10. Turn the heat to low. Cover with a lid. Walk away...
  • 11. When the rice absorbs the liquid it is ready.

Tips:

  • Choose high-quality kielbasa: Opt for a kielbasa that is made with fresh, high-quality pork and has a smoky, flavorful taste. Look for kielbasa that is not too greasy or fatty.
  • Slice the kielbasa thinly: This will help it cook evenly and absorb the flavors of the other ingredients.
  • Use a large skillet or Dutch oven: This will provide enough space for the kielbasa, rice, and vegetables to cook without overcrowding.
  • Cook the kielbasa first: This will help to render out some of the fat and give the kielbasa a nice, crispy exterior.
  • Add the rice and vegetables: Once the kielbasa is cooked, add the rice and vegetables to the skillet or Dutch oven. Stir to combine and cook until the rice is tender and the vegetables are softened.
  • Season to taste: Add salt, pepper, and any other desired seasonings to taste. You can also add a splash of white wine or chicken broth for extra flavor.
  • Serve immediately: Polish kielbasa and rice is best served hot and fresh. Garnish with chopped parsley or green onions for a pop of color and flavor.

Conclusion:

Polish kielbasa and rice is a hearty and flavorful dish that is perfect for a quick and easy meal. It is made with just a few simple ingredients and can be easily tailored to your own taste preferences. Whether you like your kielbasa and rice spicy or mild, there is a recipe out there for you.
