3 cups chopped pitted dates (1 lb)
1 1/2 cups water
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1 cup packed brown sugar
1 cup butter or margarine, softened

1 1/2 cups quick-cooking oats
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt

  • Heat oven to 400°F. Grease bottom and sides of 13x9-inch pan with shortening.

Tips:

  • Soften the butter and cream cheese to room temperature before creaming together. This will help them blend smoothly and create a light and fluffy filling.
  • Use a stand mixer or hand mixer to cream the butter and cream cheese together. This will help to incorporate air into the mixture and make it light and fluffy.
  • Add the sugar gradually, beating until the mixture is smooth and fluffy. This will help to prevent the sugar from crystallizing and making the filling gritty.
  • Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. This will help to prevent the mixture from curdling.
  • Add the flour and salt and mix until just combined. Overmixing will make the filling tough.
  • Pour the filling into the prepared crust and bake according to the recipe instructions.
  • Let the bars cool completely before slicing and serving. This will help them to set and hold their shape.

Conclusion:

Plantation Bars are a delicious and easy-to-make dessert that are perfect for any occasion. With their creamy, tangy filling and buttery, flaky crust, they are sure to be a hit with everyone who tries them.
