Time 1h10m

Yield 6 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 11

12 ounces uncooked spaghetti
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 (1 lb) package mild ground turkey or 1 (1 lb) package pork sausage
2 ounces turkey pepperoni, cut in half (about 30)
1 (26 ounce) jar tomato-and-basil pasta sauce (use more if you like)
1/4 cup grated parmesan cheese
1 cup shredded italian three-cheese blend (another cup won't hurt!)
1 (6 1/2 ounce) can sliced mushrooms, and stems drained (optional)
sliced green olives (optional)
black olives (optional)
onion, green peppers (optional)

Steps:

  • Cook spaghetti with 1/2 teaspoons salt according to package directions. Drain well, and place in a lightly greased 13- x 9-inch baking dish.
  • Brown sausage in a large skillet over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally, 5 minutes or until meat crumbles and is no longer pink. (If you are adding onions and or green peppers cook them along with the sausage) Drain and set aside. Wipe skillet clean. Add pepperoni, and cook over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally, 4 minutes or until slightly crisp.
  • Top spaghetti in baking dish with sausage; pour pasta sauce over sausage (add any additional veggies etc at this time as well.) Arrange half of pepperoni slices evenly over pasta sauce. Sprinkle evenly with cheeses. Arrange remaining half of pepperoni slices evenly over cheese. Cover with nonstick or lightly greased aluminum foil.
  • Bake at 350° for 30 minutes; remove foil, and bake 10 more minutes or until cheese is melted and just begins to brown.
  • For OAMC: Freeze the unbaked casserole up to one month. Thaw overnight in the refrigerator; let stand 30 minutes at room temperature, and bake as directed.

Easy Pizza Pasta Casserole (OAMC) image

This is a kid pleaser-very cheesy and topped with pepperoni. It makes 2 large (9x13) casseroles or 4 small ones; I often divide it in fourths and freeze 3. This originally came from TOH's Quick Cooking.

All your favorite pizza toppings mixed together with pasta make this Pizza Pasta Casserole a family favorite!

Categories     Dinner

Yield 8

Number Of Ingredients 14

3 cups penne pasta (I used protein pasta, whole wheat works great too)
1 1/2 teaspoons olive oil
1 onion (diced)
1 green bell pepper (diced)
1 1/2 cups fresh sliced mushrooms
4 cloves garlic (minced)
8 ounces Italian turkey sausage links (casings removed - hot Italian sausage works too)
1 cup turkey pepperoni (cut into quarters)
1 (28 ounce) can diced tomatoes (drained)
1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce
1/2 Tablespoon balsamic vinegar
1/2 Tablespoon Italian seasoning
Salt and pepper, to taste
1 1/2 cups shredded Mozzarella cheese

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Prepare the pasta as directed on the package.
  • While the pasta is cooking, place a large skillet over medium high heat on the stove top. Warm up the olive oil in the skillet and then add the onions and green pepper.
  • Cook for a few minutes until vegetables are tender, then add the mushrooms and garlic. Cook for 1 more minute. Push everything to the side of the pan and add the sausage.
  • Cook the sausage, breaking it into small pieces as it cooks. Cook until it's no longer pink. Drain grease. Add in the pepperoni slices and stir together.
  • Add in remaining ingredients to the skillet except for Mozzarella cheese.
  • Turn the heat down to medium and let the mixture simmer for 2-3 minutes so that the flavors can meld together.
  • Turn off the heat and add the cooked pasta to the skillet pan. Mix everything together.
  • Spray a large 9 x 13 inch baking pan with non-stick cooking spray.
  • Dump the pasta mixture into the pan. Top with Mozzarella cheese and any other toppings you prefer.
  • Bake in the oven (uncovered) for about 30 minutes or until cheese is melted and pasta is heated through.

Tips:

  • Choose the right pasta: Spaghetti is the classic choice for this casserole, but you can also use other types of pasta, such as penne, macaroni, or shells.
  • Cook the pasta al dente: This means that the pasta should be cooked until it is tender but still has a slight bite to it. Overcooked pasta will become mushy in the casserole.
  • Use a flavorful sauce: The sauce is what will give your casserole its flavor, so be sure to choose one that you enjoy. You can use a store-bought sauce or make your own.
  • Add plenty of cheese: Cheese is what makes this casserole so rich and decadent. You can use any type of cheese that you like, but mozzarella, cheddar, and Parmesan are all good choices.
  • Don't overbake the casserole: The casserole is done when the cheese is melted and bubbly and the pasta is heated through. Overbaking will dry out the casserole.

Conclusion:

Pizza spaghetti casserole is a delicious and easy-to-make dish that is perfect for a weeknight meal. It is a great way to use up leftover spaghetti and sauce, and it is also a fun and creative way to serve pizza. With its combination of pasta, sauce, cheese, and pepperoni, this casserole is sure to be a hit with everyone at the table.
