Tips:

  • Choose fresh, tender asparagus. Look for spears that are bright green and have tightly closed tips. Avoid any spears that are wilted or have brown spots.
  • Trim the asparagus spears. Snap off the woody ends of the asparagus spears. You can also use a knife to cut off the ends.
  • Preheat your oven or grill. If you are roasting the asparagus, preheat your oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit. If you are grilling the asparagus, preheat your grill to medium-high heat.
  • Toss the asparagus with olive oil and seasonings. In a large bowl, combine the asparagus spears, olive oil, salt, and pepper. Toss to coat.
  • Roast or grill the asparagus. If you are roasting the asparagus, spread the spears in a single layer on a baking sheet. Roast for 10-12 minutes, or until the asparagus is tender and slightly charred. If you are grilling the asparagus, grill the spears for 5-7 minutes per side, or until they are tender and slightly charred.
  • Serve the asparagus immediately. Asparagus is best served immediately after it is cooked. You can serve it with a variety of dipping sauces, such as hollandaise sauce, lemon-butter sauce, or ranch dressing.
