Time 1h10m

Number Of Ingredients 14

2 c white bread crust removed cut into cubes
1/3 c buttermilk
2 Tbsp butter
1 medium onion diced
1 medium green pepper diced
8 oz mushroom minced
4 clove garlic minced
salt and pepper
2 lb ground beef
2 Tbsp ketchup
2 Tbsp worcestershire sauce
2 large eggs
1/2 c panko bread crumbs
16 oz sliced provolone cheese

Steps:

  • 1. Mix the white bread and buttermilk together and set aside. Melt the butter in a large skillet. Add the onion, garlic, green pepper, and mushrooms. Season with salt and pepper. Cook until softened and mushrooms have gave up their moisture. Let cool
  • 2. Mix the buttermilk bread mixture together with your hands making sure all the bread is broken up and moist. Place the ground beef in a large bowl. Add the buttermilk bread mixture, ketchup, Worcestershire, eggs, Panko and onion green pepper mixture. Mix well with hands until all ingredients are well incorporated.
  • 3. Spray a 9X15 pan with cooking spray. Preheat oven 375 degrees. Place half of the meatloaf mixture in bottom of pan. Layer half the Provolone cheese on top. Top with remaining meat mixture. Bake for 40 minutes. Add the remaining Provolone cheese and bake until cheese is melted and bubbly.
  • 4. Let rest for 10 minutes before cutting.

Tips:

  • When choosing ground beef for your meatloaf, opt for a blend of lean and fatty beef, such as 80/20. This will ensure that the meatloaf is moist and flavorful.
  • To achieve a tender and juicy meatloaf, handle the ground beef gently and do not overmix it. Overmixing can result in a tough and dense meatloaf.
  • Season the meatloaf generously with a variety of herbs and spices. This will add flavor and depth to the dish. Some popular seasonings include salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, and oregano.
  • Incorporate some vegetables into your meatloaf to add moisture and texture. Grated carrots, chopped onions, and bell peppers are all great options.
  • To prevent the meatloaf from drying out, wrap it in bacon or brush it with a glaze before baking. This will help to keep the meatloaf moist and flavorful.
  • Bake the meatloaf in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 1 hour, or until it reaches an internal temperature of 160°F (70°C).
  • Let the meatloaf rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving. This will help the juices to redistribute throughout the meatloaf, resulting in a more tender and flavorful dish.

The Philly cheese steak meatloaf is a delicious and easy-to-make dish that is perfect for any occasion. With its combination of savory ground beef, melted cheese, and sautéed onions and peppers, this meatloaf is sure to be a hit with everyone at the table.
