This easy-to-make hot dip would make a handsome addition to your snack table for the Big Game. Like all great party foods, it's wonderful hot, warm, room temp, and, I've heard from a reliable source, even delicious cold. Serve alongside sliced baguette. Keep it hot and fresh for guests by baking it in 2 batches, or feel free to do this all at once in a 9x13-inch baking dish.

Time 1h23m

Yield 24

Number Of Ingredients 14

1 pound beef top sirloin steaks
salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 yellow onion, diced
1 tablespoon butter
1 red bell pepper
1 green bell pepper
½ cup pepperoncini peppers
7 pickled red peppers (such as Peppadew®)
3 jalapeno peppers
2 (8 ounce) packages cream cheese, softened
½ pound provolone cheese
½ teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1 pinch cayenne pepper

Steps:

  • Slice steak into thick pieces. Season generously on both sides with salt and pepper.
  • Heat olive oil in a pan over high heat until smoking. Add steak slices and sear until bottoms are browned, 3 to 4 minutes. Flip over and reduce heat to medium. Cook until juices appear on the tops, 3 to 4 minutes more. Transfer to a bowl to cool.
  • Add diced onion, a big pinch of salt, and butter to the meat juices in the pan. Cook and stir over medium heat, scraping up the browned bits, until onions start to soften, 5 to 7 minutes.
  • Dice up the red bell pepper, green bell pepper, pepperoncini, pickled red peppers, and jalapenos until you have 1 1/2 to 2 cups. Add to the onions; cook and stir until starting to soften, about 5 minutes.
  • Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).
  • Chop steak into small pieces. Place back into the bowl with the accumulated meat juices. Add the onion-pepper mixture and cream cheese. Grate in the provolone cheese, saving a little for the top. Drizzle in Worcestershire sauce and sprinkle in cayenne pepper. Mix dip thoroughly.
  • Transfer 1/2 of the dip into a small baking dish. Smooth the top with a fork. Place baking dish on top of a sheet pan. Sprinkle the remaining provolone cheese on top. Save the other 1/2 to bake fresh for your guests.
  • Bake in the preheated oven until dip is bubbling and heated through, 20 to 25 minutes. Broil until top is browned, about 1 minute more. Repeat with the second batch of dip.

Number Of Ingredients 13

one package beef roast au jus, 17 oz.
1 cup chopped onion, one large
four cloves garlic, minced
1 tablespoon olive oil
nonstick cooking spray
one jar process cheese dip, 15 ounces
3/4 cup chopped red sweet pepper, one medium
3/4 cup chopped green sweet pepper, one medium
one can sliced mushrooms, drained, 4 ounces
1/3 cup pepperoncini salad peppers, stemmed and chopped
1 tablespoon worcestershire sauce
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
hoagie planks, recipe follows

Steps:

  • 1. Remove Cover from the package of beef and cook beef in the microwave on full power for one minute. Remove beef roast from package. Reserve 1/3 cup of the au jus. Set aside. In a large skillet, cook onion and garlic and hot oil over medium-high heat until tender. Stir in beef.
  • 2. Lightly coat the inside of a 3 1/2 or 4 quart slow cooker with cooking spray. Add beef mixture to cooker. Stir in the reserved 1/3 cup au jus, cheese dip, sweet peppers, mushrooms, pepperoncini, Worcestershire sauce, and black pepper.
  • 3. Cover and cook on high heat setting for 1 to 2 hours. Serve at once or keep warm, covered, on warm setting or low heat setting for up to two hours. Serve with hoagie planks. Makes 20 servings.
  • 4. Hoagie planks: preheat broiler. Split five hoagie buns and place, cut side up, on a baking sheet. Spread with about 1/4 cup softened butter and sprinkled with 1/2 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning, crushed. Broil 4 to 5 inches from the heat for 2 to 3 minutes or until lightly toasted. To serve, cut one half diagonally into pieces.

Tips:

  • To save time, use pre-sliced steak or thinly sliced deli steak.
  • For a more flavorful sandwich, marinate the steak in your favorite marinade for at least 30 minutes before cooking.
  • If you don't have a cast-iron skillet, you can use a large nonstick skillet.
  • Be sure to cook the steak over high heat so that it gets a nice sear.
  • Don't overcrowd the skillet when cooking the steak. This will prevent it from cooking evenly.
  • Once the steak is cooked, let it rest for a few minutes before slicing it. This will help the juices redistribute throughout the meat.
  • For the cheese sauce, use a good quality cheese that melts well, such as cheddar, provolone, or Swiss.
  • If you like your cheese sauce extra cheesy, add some grated Parmesan cheese to the mix.
  • Serve the Philly cheese steak dip immediately with your favorite dipping bread, such as hoagie rolls, baguette slices, or tortilla chips.

The Philly cheese steak dip is a delicious and easy-to-make appetizer or party food. It's perfect for game day, potlucks, or any other gathering.
