Time 6h10m

Yield 16-20 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 9

1 (5 lb) boneless pork butt (shoulder)
1 1/2 teaspoons smoked paprika
2 teaspoons black pepper
1 teaspoon cayenne
1 teaspoon dried thyme
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup water
16 -20 soft sandwich buns

Steps:

  • Combine all the seasonings in a small bowl and rub evenly over roast. Place meat in a 6-quart slow cooker. Add water. Cover and cook on LOW for 6-8 hours or HIGH for 4-5 hours or until pork is very tender.
  • Remove pork to a large cutting board or platter and let rest for 10-15 minutes. Pull, slice or chop to serve. Serve in buns with barbecue sauce.

Tips:

  • Choose the right cut of pork: Pork shoulder or pork butt is the best cut for pulled pork because it has a good amount of fat that will help keep the meat moist during cooking.
  • Use a flavorful rub: A good rub will help to add flavor to the pork. You can use a store-bought rub or make your own using spices like chili powder, cumin, paprika, and garlic powder.
  • Cook the pork low and slow: Pulled pork is best cooked low and slow over a long period of time. This will help to tenderize the meat and make it fall apart easily.
  • Use a smoker or slow cooker: You can cook pulled pork in a smoker or a slow cooker. A smoker will give the meat a more smoky flavor, while a slow cooker is easier to use.
  • Let the pork rest before shredding: Once the pork is cooked, let it rest for a few minutes before shredding it. This will help the juices to redistribute throughout the meat.

Conclusion:

Pulled pork is a delicious and versatile dish that can be enjoyed in many different ways. It can be served on sandwiches, tacos, or nachos. It can also be used as a filling for burritos or enchiladas. Pulled pork is a great dish to make for a party or potluck because it can be made ahead of time and reheated when you're ready to serve it.
