Fast and Easy and you dont have to stand over a hot stove

Categories     Rice Sides

Time 30m

Number Of Ingredients 4

2 c long grain rice
3 1/2 c water or stock
1 1/2 tsp butter or oil
salt and pepper

Steps:

  • 1. Place ingredients in a large glass bowl. Microwave on high for 10 minutes uncovered. Then set it to med/low and microwave uncovered for 15 minutes more. Do not stir rice at any time during cooking process. Season with salt and pepper and fluff with fork just before serving

Tips:

  • Choose the right variety: Long-grain rice, such as basmati or jasmine, is best for microwaving. Short-grain rice, such as sushi rice, can become mushy.
  • Rinse the rice: Rinsing the rice removes starch, which can make the rice gummy.
  • Use the proper water ratio: The water ratio for microwaved rice is typically 1:2, meaning 1 cup of rice to 2 cups of water.
  • Salt the water: Salting the water adds flavor to the rice.
  • Cover the rice: Covering the rice helps it cook evenly.
  • Let the rice stand: After cooking, let the rice stand for 5 minutes before fluffing it with a fork.
  • Fluff the rice: Fluffing the rice with a fork helps to separate the grains and make it light and fluffy.

Conclusion:

Cooking rice in the microwave is a quick and easy way to prepare a delicious and versatile side dish. By following these tips, you can ensure that your microwaved rice turns out perfect every time.
