PERFECT MICROWAVE OATMEAL FOR ONE

Perfect Microwave Oatmeal for One image

I used to fix myself hot oatmeal every day, even when I was working. I guess I'm lazier now, and not willing to clean that pot day after day. SO, after much trial and error, I figured out how to do it right in the ce4ereal bowl, in the microwave. Pre-loading single servings -- everything but the water -- into snack-size zip bags make this an even quicker way to have my oatmeal any day I want it.

Time 3m

Yield 1 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 7

1/2 cup old-fashioned oatmeal
5 ounces water
1 tablespoon raisins (or other dried fruit)
1 tablespoon walnut pieces (or other nuts)
1 -2 dash salt
1/8 teaspoon cinnamon
1 -2 teaspoon brown sugar (optional, I don't do this, but sometimes I'll add a little sugar after it's cooked, if I'm in the mo)

Steps:

  • Put everything into a microwave safe bowl. You need one deep enough to avoid boil-over messes.
  • Microwave on HIGH for 2 minutes.
  • Stir and eat with a little milk and a sliced half banana. Yum!

This is NOT boring oatmeal! I've hooked many a "I don't care for oatmeal" folks w/ this one! Other than the basics (water, oats, & salt), the ingredients are optional and may be varied to suit individual tastes.

Time 7m

Yield 1 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 cup water
1/2 cup rolled oats
1 dash salt
2 tablespoons brown sugar
cinnamon (I must use a teaspoon)
2 tablespoons chopped walnuts
1/4 cup dried cherries (see Notes below)

Steps:

  • Combine ingredients in microwave safe dish/pot. Nuke 2 mins 20 sec. Stir. If still "water-y," nuke 10-15 seconds.
  • ***Note #1: I often use whatever fresh fruit I have on hand -- chopped apples, cut up bananas, fresh peaches, etc.
  • ***Note #2: I also like to use dried fruit such as raisins, cherries, blueberries, etc. When using dried fruit, I like to nuke the fruit in enough water to cover for appx 2 mins, depending on the size of the fruit and it's estimated moisture content.
  • ***Note #3: After nuking dried fruit, do not drain if there is any water left. Add the other ingredients to the pot and go from there.
  • ***Note #4: Other than the water and oats, I don't actually measure the other stuff, just adding a handful of this and some of that.

Tips for Making the Perfect Microwave Oatmeal:

- **Use old-fashioned or rolled oats.** These types of oats will give you a creamier, more satisfying bowl of oatmeal. - **Measure your oats and water carefully.** The ratio of oats to water is important for getting the right consistency. - **Add your favorite toppings before cooking.** This will help the flavors to meld together. - **Cook the oatmeal on high power for 2-3 minutes, then stir.** This will help to prevent the oatmeal from boiling over. - **Continue cooking the oatmeal in 30-second intervals, stirring in between.** This will help to ensure that the oatmeal is cooked evenly. - **Let the oatmeal cool for a minute or two before serving.** This will help to prevent the oatmeal from being too hot.

Conclusion:

Microwave oatmeal is a quick, easy, and delicious way to start your day. With a few simple tips, you can make the perfect bowl of oatmeal every time. So next time you're in a hurry, don't skip breakfast – just pop some oats in the microwave and you'll have a hot, hearty meal in minutes.
