Ever wonder how to brew a perfect cup of tea? This is the recipe you've been waiting for!

Number Of Ingredients 2

Boiling water
Loose tea or tea bag

Steps:

  • Whether you use loose tea or tea bags, the preparation method is the same. Start with a spotlessly clean teapot made of glass, china or earthenware. Add rapidly boiling water, and allow to stand a few minutes to "hot the pot". Pour out just before before brewing the tea.
  • Heat cold water to a full rolling boil. (use water from the cold-water tap; water from the hot-water tap may contain mineral deposits from water pipes that can affect the flavor of the tea.)
  • Add tea to the warm pot, allowing 1 teaspoon of loose tea or 1 tea bag for each cup tea. Pour boiling water over tea (3/4 cup for each cup of tea); let stand 3 to 5 minutes to bring out the full flavor. Stir tea once to ensure uniform strength. Do not judge the strength of tea by its color; you must taste it. Strain the tea, or remove tea bags. Serve wtih sugar and milk or lemon if desired.

Steps:

  • Use cold tap water, as it is fresher, and let it run for a minute so that it will be aerated. If you like, you can use bottled water instead. Do not use warm tap water.
  • Boil water in kettle. If you are in a particularly cold climate, such as the North of England, add hot water to the tea pot until you are ready to pour in the boiling water, so that the tea pot will already be warm when you add the tea leaves.
  • Put 1 tablespoon of tea leaves in tea pot for 2 6-ounce servings.
  • Pour boiling water over tea leaves.
  • Allow to brew for 3 - 5 minutes, according to how much you will be cutting the tea with milk or cream. 5 minutes is only for tea that you intend to add a lot of milk or cream to. 3 minutes will allow the tea leaves to reach their optimum flavor, so it is considered the perfect brewing time.
  • Cover with a tea cozy in order to keep the heat in the pot.

THE PERFECT CUP OF TEA-BRITISH STYLE

The Perfect Cup of Tea-British Style image

I had a rommate for 6 years who was from England. One day he told me jokingly that he loved this country but "we Americans just don't know how to make a proper cup of Tea" He felt it was his duty to teach me how and he was right! This is the only way I will drink my Tea now. It is really more of a method than a recipe. After careful instruction on how to prepare the proper cup of tea I asked him whether loose tea leaves make a better brew than a tea bag. "Loose tea will always taste better," he said, "but, not so much better as to outweigh the convenience of the bag. What's more important is the type of tea that you choose." "In Britain, the standard supermarket tea bag makes a much stronger and more robust brew than your American tea." He said the closest tea bags he ever found over here that approach the quality of their everyday blends are those marketed as English Breakfast. My friend always made his Tea with lowfat milk and sugar. Explaining "Most English drink tea with a little milk, but never with cream or the high-fat milk that Americans put in their coffee. Low-fat milk is a much better choice. "Make sure you use white sugar. Brown sugar might be OK in coffee, but somehow it never tastes right in tea. As for putting honey in tea, if you tried to do that in Britain, you'd be laughed out of the tea shop." Many thanks to Chris for showing me how to make the perfect cup of tea!

Time 3m

Yield 1 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 4

1 twining's english breakfast tea bag
boiling water
1 teaspoon low-fat milk (or to taste)
1 teaspoon sugar (or to taste)

Steps:

  • First, you have to boil the water - don't just heat it, boil it. Second, add the boiling water to the tea bag, not the other way round. - putting the water in the cup and adding the bag to it - is a recipe for disaster. Unless the water is at boiling point when it makes contact with the tea, the tea will never properly brew.
  • Make sure the cup or pot is nice and hot before you start. If necessary, rinse it out with near-boiling water. And keep it covered while the tea is brewing.
  • Leave the bag in the water for at least two minutes - longer if you like your tea strong. And for goodness sake, resist the temptation to dunk. Just leave the bag alone until the drink is ready! Add milk and sugar to taste.

Tips for the Perfect Cup of Tea:

  • Fresh, Cold Water: Always start with fresh, cold water. Avoid using water that has been sitting in the kettle for a while, as this can make the tea taste stale.
  • Choose the Right Tea Leaves: The type of tea leaves you use will have a big impact on the flavor of your tea. There are many different types of tea leaves available, so experiment until you find one that you like.
  • Use the Correct Amount of Tea Leaves: The amount of tea leaves you use will also affect the flavor of your tea. A good rule of thumb is to use 1 teaspoon of tea leaves for every 8 ounces of water.
  • Steep the Tea for the Right Amount of Time: The steeping time will vary depending on the type of tea you are using. Black tea should be steeped for 3-5 minutes, green tea for 2-3 minutes, and white tea for 1-2 minutes.
  • Use the Right Temperature Water: The temperature of the water you use to steep the tea is also important. Black tea should be steeped in water that is boiling, green tea in water that is 175-185 degrees Fahrenheit, and white tea in water that is 160-170 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Don't Overcrowd the Teapot: When you are steeping the tea, don't overcrowd the teapot. This will prevent the tea leaves from having enough room to expand and release their full flavor.
  • Serve the Tea Immediately: Once the tea is steeped, serve it immediately. Tea that has been sitting for a while will start to lose its flavor.

Conclusion:

Making the perfect cup of tea is both an art and a science. By following these tips, you can ensure that you are always enjoying a delicious and flavorful cup of tea. Experiment with different types of tea leaves, steeping times, and water temperatures to find the perfect cup of tea for your taste.
