Tips:

  • Use a well-browned roux: A dark roux will give your gravy a richer, more flavorful taste. To make a roux, simply heat equal parts butter and flour in a saucepan over medium heat, stirring constantly until the mixture is a deep brown color.
  • Use beef broth or stock: Beef broth or stock is the best liquid to use for brown gravy. It will give your gravy a rich, beefy flavor. If you don't have beef broth or stock, you can use water, but your gravy will be less flavorful.
  • Add seasonings to taste: Once you've added the beef broth or stock, season your gravy to taste with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. You can also add other seasonings, such as thyme, rosemary, or sage.
  • Simmer for at least 30 minutes: The longer you simmer your gravy, the more flavorful it will be. Simmer your gravy for at least 30 minutes, or up to an hour, stirring occasionally.
  • Strain your gravy before serving: Straining your gravy will remove any lumps or impurities. You can use a fine-mesh strainer or a cheesecloth-lined colander.

Conclusion:

Brown gravy is a delicious and versatile sauce that can be served with a variety of dishes, such as roasted chicken, mashed potatoes, and vegetables. With just a few simple ingredients and a little bit of time, you can make a perfect brown gravy that will impress your family and friends.
