3 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 1/2 cups sugar
1/2-2/3 cup butter
3 large eggs
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 cup buttermilk
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 teaspoon almond extract

Tips:

  • Use quality ingredients: Fresh, high-quality ingredients will result in a better-tasting cake. Use unsalted butter, large eggs at room temperature, and all-purpose flour.
  • Cream the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy: This will help to incorporate air into the batter, resulting in a lighter, more tender cake.
  • Gradually add the eggs, one at a time: This will help to prevent the batter from curdling.
  • Beat the egg whites separately until stiff peaks form: This will help to add volume to the cake.
  • Gently fold the egg whites into the batter: Be careful not to overmix, as this can deflate the batter.
  • Bake the cake in a preheated oven: This will help to ensure that the cake rises evenly.
  • Let the cake cool completely before frosting: This will help to prevent the frosting from melting.
