PENNE WITH ITALIAN SAUSAGE AND PEPPERS

PENNE WITH ITALIAN SAUSAGE AND PEPPERS image

Categories     Pasta     Pork     Sauté     Quick & Easy     Dinner

Yield 6 servings

Number Of Ingredients 11

1 Lb. Penne or Ziti
1 Lb. Italian Sausage
8 slices bacon, chopped
1 clove garlic, chopped
1 small yellow onion, cut in 1/2 inch wedges
1 red bell pepper, sliced
1 yellow pepper, sliced
1 Cup heavy cream
1 jar Marinara ( I prefer Paul Newmans)
Red Pepper Flakes, to taste
Olive Oil

Steps:

  • Prepare pasta according to direcions on package. Meanwhile, in large saute pan, heat 1 tbsp. olive oil over medium heat. Add sausage and bacon and cook until browned. Add garlic, onion and peppers and suate until softened, 5-7 minutes. Add heavy cream and pepper flakes and bring to boil. Let thicken a few minutes. Add Marinara and let simmer 10 minutes. Add pasta to sauce. Add any pasta water to thin, if needed. Serve with a simple salad and crusty bread

Tips:

  • Use good quality ingredients: The better the quality of your ingredients, the better your pasta will taste. This means using fresh vegetables, high-quality sausage, and a good quality pasta sauce.
  • Cook the pasta al dente: This means cooking the pasta until it is tender but still has a slight bite to it. Overcooked pasta will be mushy and unpleasant to eat.
  • Don't overcrowd the pan: When cooking the pasta, don't overcrowd the pan. This will prevent the pasta from cooking evenly and will make it more likely to stick together.
  • Use a large pot: When cooking the sauce, use a large pot so that there is plenty of room for the sauce to simmer. This will help to prevent the sauce from splattering and will also help to keep the sauce from burning.
  • Simmer the sauce for at least 30 minutes: This will help to develop the flavors of the sauce and will also help to thicken the sauce.
  • Serve the pasta immediately: Once the pasta is cooked and the sauce is ready, serve the pasta immediately. This will help to ensure that the pasta is hot and flavorful.
