Tips:

  • Be patient and precise while measuring and mixing ingredients. Always measure dry ingredients with a measuring cup and level it off with a knife or straight edge.
  • Cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy. This can take a few minutes. The mixture will turn a pale yellow color and become slightly aerated.
  • Gradually add eggs, one at a time, and beat well after each addition. This will prevent the mixture from curdling.
  • Sift together dry ingredients before adding them to the wet ingredients. This helps to ensure even distribution and prevents lumps.
  • Stir in peanut butter until just combined. Do not overmix, as this can make the bars tough.
  • Line the baking pan with parchment paper or greased foil for easy cleanup.
  • Bake bars until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with just a few moist crumbs attached.
  • Let bars cool completely before cutting into them. This will help them to hold their shape.
