WHOLE WHEAT & PEANUT BUTTER DOG BISCUITS

Yield 10 to 20 biscuits

Steps:
- Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F. Line a sheet pan with parchment paper.
- In the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, combine the two flours, the powdered milk, oatmeal, peanut butter and wheat germ. With the mixer on low speed, add the extra-large egg and 1 cup of water and mix just until it forms a slightly sticky ball.
- Dump the dough out on a well-floured board (I use all-purpose flour) and knead it into a ball. Roll the dough out 1/2-inch thick. Dip a cookie cutter in flour and cut out dog bone shapes. Collect the scraps, knead lightly, roll out again and cut more dog biscuits.
- Place the biscuits on the prepared sheet pan and brush with the egg wash. Sprinkle with oatmeal and bake for 1 hour, until completely hard. Cool and toss.

PEANUT BISCUITS
My sister-in-law was bemoaning the fact that "You can't buy Peanut Biscuits anymore" - I'd never even heard of them - but her birthday was coming up so I searched high and low to find some recipes. I found lots and did various test bakes to find the perfect one.........and here it is! The preparation time is dependant on your ingredients really; the only 'blanched peanuts' I can get are whole, so I have to break them up by hand - I tried a mortar and pestle but they bounced everywhere; so I tried putting them in a bag and bashed it with my rolling pin - the bag split and the nuts bounced everywhere again! I now sit down and break them up by hand. Good excuse for a long sit down I say ;o) Oh I can make it last for AGES (giggle) (I've shortened this time now... by pressing the nuts against the blade a knife; allowing the separated bottom ends to drop into a bowl; then using the point of the blade to twist the jointed top end of the nut apart.) I have made these SO many times now that I can offer a few more ideas to make it even easier - once the sugar and butter are combined, add the egg and THEN "beat well together until thick and pale" - if you stir in the peanuts BEFORE you addd the flour it all combines much more easily and doesn't make any difference to the finished product! I don't buy biscuits anymore - all I ever have in is - these biscuits and "Chewy English Flapjack" (Recipe #1472863)

DOG BISCUITS: PEANUT BUTTER AND PUMPKIN
I always have these ingredients in the pantry. You can use either all purpose flour or whole wheat, quick cook or old fashioned oats, and chunky or smooth peanut butter. When these are in the oven, the house smells so good that my husband would even try them I think. I love to whip these up for the girls (dogs). It's only fair they get special treats now and again :) I also make these around Christmas and give them to my friends with dogs! Great gift for pet owners!!!

Steps:
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
- Combine dry ingredients in a bowl (flour, oats, salt, and cinnamon) and mix.
- In a stand mixer bowl, combine the eggs, pumpkin, and peanut butter. Combine the 2 together and start to work the dough. If you don't have a mixer, then just do it by hand.
- The dough should be dry and stiff. You might need to add just a bit of water.
- Roll the dough about 1/2-inch-thick and cut with cookie cutters or a knife.
- Bake on a parchment or silpat lined cookie sheet for about 30-40 minutes, or until hard. The baking time depends on if you are making big treats, or little ones so adjust the times. Little treats I would check at around 15 minutes or so.
- Store in an airtight container.

PLAIN PEANUT BISCUITS (COOKIES)
This comes from my very old hand written cookbook. Another good 'tin filler':) This recipe does not contain cocoa that is one reason they are called 'plain' :)

Time 20m
Yield 24 biscuits

Steps:
- Melt together the butter, golden syrup and sugar.
- Put other ingredients into a bowl and pour over melted mixture.
- Mix well.
- Put teaspoonful onto a cold ungreased tray and press down lightly with a fork.
- Bake at 300'F for 15 minutes.
Tips:
- Use creamy peanut butter. This will result in a smoother and more flavorful cookie.
- Chill the dough before baking. This will help the cookies hold their shape and prevent them from spreading too much.
- Bake the cookies until they are just set. Overbaking will make them dry and crumbly.
