Time 1h5m

Yield 6-8 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 7

4 cups elbow macaroni, cooked and drained
2 cups grated cheddar cheese
3 eggs, beaten
1/2 cup sour cream
4 tablespoons butter, cut into pieces
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup milk

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350°F.
  • Once you have the macaroni cooked and drained, place in a large bowl and while still hot and add the cheddar.
  • In a separate bowl, combine the remaining ingredients and add to the macaroni mixture.
  • Pour macaroni mixture into a casserole dish and bake for 30 to 45 minutes.
  • Top with additional cheese if desired, and bake a few minutes more until cheese is melted.

Tips:

  • Use quality ingredients: Freshly grated cheese, high-quality pasta, and flavorful butter will make a big difference in the final dish.
  • Cook the pasta al dente: This means cooking it until it is just tender but still has a slight bite to it. Overcooked pasta will be mushy and not hold its shape well in the mac and cheese.
  • Make a roux: A roux is a mixture of butter and flour that is used to thicken sauces. It adds a rich, creamy texture to the mac and cheese.
  • Season the dish well: Salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder are all essential seasonings for mac and cheese. You can also add other spices, such as paprika, cayenne pepper, or nutmeg, to taste.
  • Use a variety of cheeses: A combination of different cheeses will give the mac and cheese a more complex flavor and texture. Try using a combination of cheddar, Parmesan, and mozzarella cheeses.
  • Don't overcook the mac and cheese: Once the cheese is melted and the dish is heated through, it is ready to serve. Overcooking the mac and cheese will make it dry and rubbery.
  • Serve immediately: Mac and cheese is best when served hot and fresh out of the oven. Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
