Tips:

  • Use freshly grated cheese. Pre-shredded cheese contains cellulose, a wood pulp derivative, to keep it from clumping. This can result in a gritty texture in your grits.
  • Don't overcook the grits. Overcooked grits will be mushy and unpleasant. Cook them until they are just tender, about 20 minutes.
  • Use a good quality garlic powder. Garlic powder can vary in flavor and potency. Use a brand that you trust and that has a strong, pungent flavor.
  • Serve the grits immediately. Grits are best served hot and fresh out of the oven. If you need to make them ahead of time, you can reheat them in the oven or microwave.

Conclusion:

Paula Deen's Baked Garlic Cheese Grits is a delicious and easy-to-make side dish that is perfect for any occasion. The creamy grits are infused with the flavors of garlic, cheese, and butter, and the crunchy breadcrumb topping adds a nice textural contrast. These grits are sure to be a hit with your family and friends.
