CROCK POT MACARONI & CHEESE

Crock Pot Macaroni & Cheese image

I saw Paula Deen make this recipe on her Food Network program. I was looking for a really creamy macaroni and cheese recipe, and this is it! I changed it a bit by omitting the eggs (the original recipe calls for three) and boiling the macaroni for six minutes instead of seven, so it doesn't get mushy while cooking in the Crockpot. I also shortened the cooking time from three to two and a half hours. Perfection!

Tips:

  • Use a good quality cheese: The type of cheese you use will make a big difference in the flavor of your macaroni and cheese. Use a sharp cheddar cheese or a combination of cheddar and Monterey Jack for a classic flavor. You can also use other types of cheese, such as Parmesan, Gruyère, or Gouda, to create a different flavor profile.
  • Cook the macaroni al dente: The macaroni should be cooked until it is al dente, or slightly firm to the bite. This will prevent it from becoming mushy when it is baked in the crock pot.
  • Use a roux: A roux is a mixture of butter and flour that is used to thicken the cheese sauce. This will help to prevent the cheese sauce from becoming too thin and watery.
  • Add some seasonings: Season the cheese sauce with salt, pepper, and garlic powder to taste. You can also add other seasonings, such as paprika, cayenne pepper, or chili powder, to give the macaroni and cheese a little kick.
  • Top with breadcrumbs: Before baking the macaroni and cheese, top it with a layer of breadcrumbs. This will give the macaroni and cheese a crispy, golden brown topping.

Conclusion:

Paula Deen's Crock-Pot Macaroni and Cheese is a delicious and easy-to-make dish that is perfect for a weeknight meal or a potluck. With just a few simple ingredients, you can make a creamy, cheesy macaroni and cheese that the whole family will love.
