Time 1h

Yield 16 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 10

1/2 cup Crisco shortening
1 cup sugar
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
2 eggs, beaten
3 bananas, mashed
1/3 cup buttermilk
1/2 cup walnuts (chopped) or 1/2 cup pecans (chopped)

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350.
  • Cream shortening and sugar.
  • Soft together flour, salt, baking powder, and baking soda and add to creamed mixture.
  • Add remaining ingredients and mix well.
  • Pour into a well-greased loaf pan.
  • Bake for 40 to 45 minutes.

Tips:

  • For a sweeter bread, use ripe bananas. The riper the bananas, the sweeter the bread will be.
  • If you don't have buttermilk, you can make your own by adding 1 tablespoon of lemon juice or vinegar to 1 cup of milk. Let it sit for 5 minutes before using.
  • To make sure the bread is cooked through, insert a toothpick into the center. If it comes out clean, the bread is done.
  • Let the bread cool completely before slicing and serving. This will help it hold its shape.

Conclusion:

Paula Deen's Banana Bread is a classic recipe that is easy to make and always a crowd-pleaser. With its moist texture, sweet banana flavor, and crunchy walnuts, this bread is perfect for breakfast, brunch, or a snack. Whether you're a beginner baker or a seasoned pro, you'll love this simple and delicious recipe.
