PARMESAN CRUSTED SPICY TUNA MELT

Parmesan Crusted Spicy Tuna Melt image

A new twist on a traditional tuna melt that had my taste-buds talking to me. I wanted it spicy and so I wasn't sure if the horseradish would work but it was a success...such a nice spicy/peppery flavor added to my tuna melt. I love, love, love horseradish and the hotter the better. It's for sure to open up your breathing and...

Time 15m

Number Of Ingredients 13

1 can(s) tuna, albacore -- drained
4 slice bread
1/2 c cheddar cheese, shredded - extra sharp (cracker barrel is an excellent brand)
1/4 c parmesan cheese, grated
1-2 small green onion, chopped
1-2 tsp lime or lemon juice
2 Tbsp pickle relish, sweet
3 Tbsp mayonnaise
3-4 Tbsp horseradish sauce
2 Tbsp onion, minced or chopped
3 - 4 Tbsp butter
1 tsp herbes de provence
1 pinch salt and pepper

Steps:

  • 1. Mix up your tuna, pickle relish, horsey sauce, spices, onion and green onion, lime or lemon juice....taste and see if you need more salt and pepper. ---- I wanted this spicy so I added 4 tbsp of horsey at least. This is all estimate cause I made it for the first time tonight. I LOVE horseradish! It's good for you too.
  • 2. Butter your bread and then sprinkle on your Parmesan and pat it down into the butter. Assemble your sandwich with a little sharp cheddar first, then your tuna mix and then more cheddar...top with other slice of bread.
  • 3. I cooked this up in my Ninja Cooking System but it could easily be pan fried or on the griddle too. The Parmesan give this an incredible crunchy crust...so good.
  • 4. Cook 3 - 5 minutes on each side with a medium heat. If you want add a little oil to pan if you think that the butter isn't enough.
  • 5. Slice up and serve with a yummy salad or some yummy fresh veggies, salad, chips or dill pickles....just delish.

Odd combinations but this makes a terrific tuna sandwich! She used it for an appetizer with gourmet crackers and people always wanted her recipe. I have never tasted another tuna salad quite like this one, and it has been my favorite recipe for tuna salad for many, many years.

TUNA SANDWICH SPREAD

Tuna Sandwich Spread image

From my grandma's recipes. Tuna in oil contains vitamin E, unlike tuna in water, so that's what I always choose.

Provided by Kaarin

Categories     Lunch/Snacks

Time 5m

Yield 1 cup, 2-4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 5

6 ounces tuna in vegetable oil, drained
1/4 cup celery, chopped or 1/4 cup carrot, shredded
2 tablespoons onions, minced (not dried)
2 tablespoons sweet pickle relish
6 tablespoons sour cream

Steps:

  • Combine ingredients and mix well. Great on whole wheat bread or as a cracker spread.

Nutrition Facts : Calories 270.9, Fat 14.6, SaturatedFat 6, Cholesterol 31.1, Sodium 452.2, Carbohydrate 8.2, Fiber 0.5, Sugar 3.1, Protein 26.1

Tips:

  • Choose high-quality ingredients: Use fresh, flavorful tuna, mayonnaise, and Parmesan cheese. Look for tuna that is packed in olive oil or water, as this will give it a better flavor and texture.
  • Use a good quality mayonnaise: Avoid using miracle whip or salad dressing, as these will not give you the same rich, creamy flavor. Look for a mayonnaise that is made with real eggs and oil.
  • Grate your own Parmesan cheese: Pre-grated Parmesan cheese often contains fillers and additives. Grating your own cheese will give you a fresher, more flavorful spread.
  • Don't overmix the ingredients: Overmixing will make the spread too thick and pasty. Mix the ingredients just until they are combined.
  • Chill the spread before serving: This will help the flavors to meld and will make the spread easier to spread.

Conclusion:

Parmesan tuna sandwich spread is a delicious and easy-to-make sandwich spread that is perfect for a quick and easy lunch or snack. It is also a great way to use up leftover tuna. With its creamy, flavorful texture and the sharp, nutty flavor of Parmesan cheese, this spread is sure to be a hit. Experiment with different types of tuna, mayonnaise, and Parmesan cheese to find your favorite combination.
