PARMESAN KNOTS

I love hot, homemade bread of all kinds. Here is something that I created using my Classic Dinner Roll recipe and kicking it up a little bit. These are great served with spaghetti or your favorite soup or stew.

Provided by Jeanne Benavidez

Categories     Other Breads

Time 1h15m

Number Of Ingredients 13

DOUGH:
2 to 2 1/4 c all-purpose flour
2 Tbsp sugar
1 envelope rapid-rise yeast
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 c milk
1/4 c water
TOPPING:
1/4 c canola oil
3 Tbsp grated parmesan cheese
1 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp dried oregano
1 tsp dried parsley flakes

Steps:

  • 1. Combine 3/4 cup flour, sugar, undissolved yeast and salt in a large bowl.
  • 2. Heat milk, water and butter until very warm (120º to 130ºF).
  • 3. Add to flour mixture. Beat 2 minutes at medium speed of electric mixer, scraping bowl occasionally.
  • 4. Add 1/4 cup flour; beat 2 minutes at high speed. Stir in enough remaining flour to make soft dough.
  • 5. Knead on lightly floured surface until smooth and elastic, about 8 to 10 minutes. Cover; let rest 10 minutes.
  • 6. Divide dough into 14 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a 10-in. rope and tie into a knot; tuck ends under. Place 2 in. apart on a greased baking sheet.
  • 7. Cover; let rise in warm, draft-free place until doubled in size, about 30 minutes.
  • 8. Bake at 400° for 10 to 12 minutes or until golden brown.
  • 9. In a large bowl, combine the remaining ingredients; brush the warm knots with the mixture.
  • 10. Serve warm with your favorite spaghetti, soup or stew.

Tips:

  • Use fresh ingredients for the best flavor. Freshly grated Parmesan cheese and cold butter will make a big difference in the taste of your knots.
  • Don't overwork the dough. Overworking the dough will make the knots tough. Mix the dough just until it comes together, then let it rest for a few minutes before rolling it out.
  • Make sure the oven is hot enough. Knots should be baked in a hot oven so that they rise quickly and don't dry out. Preheat the oven to the temperature specified in the recipe before baking the knots.
  • Don't crowd the knots in the pan. Leave some space between the knots so that they can rise properly. If the knots are too close together, they will steam instead of baking.
  • Bake the knots until they are golden brown. The knots should be a light golden brown color when they are done baking. If they are too pale, they will be undercooked. If they are too dark, they will be overcooked.

Conclusion:

Parmesan knots are a delicious and easy-to-make appetizer or snack. They are perfect for parties or potlucks, and they can also be enjoyed as a simple snack at home. With just a few simple ingredients and a little time, you can make your own delicious Parmesan knots. So preheat your oven and get started!
