1/2 teaspoon fresh ground black pepper

  • Combine the coating ingredients on a plate and mix with your fingers.

Tips:

  • Ensure Scallops Are Properly Dried: Before coating the scallops, make sure they are patted dry with paper towels. This helps the breading stick better and prevents the scallops from becoming soggy.
  • Use Panko Breadcrumbs for a Crispy Coating: Panko breadcrumbs create a crispier coating compared to regular breadcrumbs. If you don't have panko on hand, you can make your own by pulsing regular breadcrumbs in a food processor until they are coarse.
  • Season the Breadcrumbs Generously: Adding flavor to the breadcrumb mixture is crucial. Use a combination of herbs, spices, and grated Parmesan cheese to create a flavorful coating for the scallops.
  • Don't Overcrowd the Pan: When pan-frying the scallops, make sure not to overcrowd the pan. This will prevent the scallops from cooking evenly and becoming soggy.
  • Cook the Scallops Until Golden Brown: Cook the scallops for 2-3 minutes per side, or until they are golden brown and cooked through. Overcooking can make the scallops tough and rubbery.
  • Serve the Scallops Immediately: Parmesan-breaded scallops are best served immediately after cooking. This ensures that the coating remains crispy and the scallops stay juicy and tender.

Conclusion:

Parmesan-breaded scallops are a delicious and easy-to-make appetizer or main course. By following these tips, you can create perfectly crispy and flavorful scallops that will impress your family and friends. Enjoy this classic seafood dish that combines the delicate flavor of scallops with a crunchy Parmesan breadcrumb coating.
