Tips:

  • Choose the right potatoes: Waxy potatoes, such as Yukon Gold or Red Bliss, hold their shape better than starchy potatoes, such as Russet or Idaho, and are less likely to fall apart when cooked.
  • Slice the potatoes thinly: This will help them cook evenly and quickly.
  • Season the potatoes well: Use a combination of salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder to flavor the potatoes.
  • Use a heavy-duty baking dish: A cast iron skillet or Dutch oven is ideal, as it will distribute the heat evenly and prevent the potatoes from burning.
  • Cook the potatoes over indirect heat: This will help to prevent them from burning and will allow them to cook through evenly.
  • Cover the potatoes while cooking: This will help to trap the steam and create a moist cooking environment for the potatoes.
  • Stir the potatoes occasionally: This will help to prevent them from sticking to the bottom of the baking dish.
  • Cook the potatoes until they are tender: Test them with a fork or knife to check for doneness.
  • Serve the potatoes hot: They are best enjoyed immediately after cooking.
