OVEN STEAK FRIES

A basic steak fries recipe from Rachael Ray. Yummy served with steak (or with anything, really!).

Categories     Potatoes

Time 35m

Number Of Ingredients 5

5 russet potatoes, with skins, cut into thin wedges
3 Tbsp olive oil, extra virgin plus a little extra to brush onto the pan
1 tsp dried thyme
1 tsp dried oregano
1 Tbsp steak seasoning blend (i like montreal by mccormick) or salt and pepper, to taste

Steps:

  • 1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees F, with the cookie sheet in the oven to get it hot. Once hot: Take the cookie sheet out of the oven and brush on a thin coat of olive oil (not the 3 T).
  • 2. In a bowl, coat the potatoes with 3 T olive oil, dried herbs and the steak seasoning or salt and pepper, and mix well.
  • 3. Spread the potatoes to the corners of the cookie sheet and cook for about 25 minutes (*could be sooner or later - check them as they cook - See note in step 4), turning once halfway through cooking. Serve once they are nicely browned to your liking!
  • 4. Note: I find that if my wedges are thin, a total of 20-25 minutes is enough. If the wedges are thicker, a total of around 40 minutes works better.

Tips:

  • Choose the Right Cut of Steak: Select a steak that is at least 1 inch thick and has good marbling. This will ensure that the steak is juicy and flavorful.
  • Marinate the Steak: Marinating the steak in a flavorful marinade for at least 30 minutes will help to tenderize the meat and add extra flavor.
  • Season the Steak Generously: Before cooking, season the steak liberally with salt and pepper. This will help to enhance the natural flavor of the steak.
  • Cook the Steak Over High Heat: Sear the steak over high heat to create a nice crust and lock in the juices. Then, reduce the heat and continue cooking the steak to your desired doneness.
  • Let the Steak Rest: After cooking, let the steak rest for a few minutes before slicing. This will help the juices to redistribute throughout the meat, resulting in a more tender and flavorful steak.
  • Serve the Steak with Your Favorite Sides: Steak fries are a classic side dish for steak, but you can also serve the steak with other sides such as mashed potatoes, grilled vegetables, or a salad.

Conclusion:

Oven-cooked steak and fries is a delicious and easy-to-make meal that is perfect for a weeknight dinner or a special occasion.
