Steps:
- Preheat oven to 350F.
- Peel potatoes and slice for French fries.
- Lay out on paper towel, pat dry.
- Potatoes should be as dry as possible.
- Put potatoes in a large bowl and drizzle with oil, tossing to coat evenly.
- Lay in a single layer on a large baking sheet; sprinkle dry dressing mix and parsley over all.
- Bake 25 min, then flip over only once.
- Return to oven and increase temperature to 450F.
- Cook 3 to 5 min longer until potatoes are tender and start to brown.
Tips:
- Choose the right potatoes: Russet potatoes are the best choice for oven-baked french fries, as they have a high starch content that gives them a crispy exterior and fluffy interior.
- Cut the potatoes evenly: To ensure even cooking, cut the potatoes into uniform strips. A mandoline slicer can be helpful for achieving this.
- Soak the potatoes in water: Soaking the potatoes in water for 30 minutes before cooking helps to remove excess starch, which can lead to soggy fries.
- Dry the potatoes thoroughly: Before tossing the potatoes with oil and seasonings, pat them dry with a paper towel. This will help the potatoes crisp up.
- Use a high-quality oil: Olive oil or avocado oil are good choices for oven-baked french fries. These oils have a high smoke point, which means they can withstand high temperatures without burning.
- Season the potatoes well: Don't be afraid to season the potatoes generously with salt and pepper. You can also add other seasonings, such as garlic powder, onion powder, or paprika.
- Bake the potatoes in a single layer: To ensure even cooking, spread the potatoes out in a single layer on a baking sheet. Don't overcrowd the pan.
- Flip the potatoes halfway through cooking: Flipping the potatoes halfway through cooking helps them to brown evenly.
- Serve the fries immediately: Oven-baked french fries are best served immediately after they are cooked. They can be served with a variety of dipping sauces, such as ketchup, mayonnaise, or ranch dressing.
Conclusion:
Oven-baked french fries are a delicious and easy-to-make side dish that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. By following the tips above, you can make perfect oven-baked french fries that are crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. So next time you're craving french fries, give this recipe a try!
